Our group wasn´t formed to investigate the root of Irish music, or to develop a fusion between cultures, or anything like that. Amigos de guinness was created , in december 2002, so we could drink free beer in the pubs in seville. Later, we saw we needed to play better instruments and so we started to invest in it.
At the beguinning of 2004, we thougth about recording a record properly; nevertheless, when we had enough money, we spent it on a trip to the heart of ireland. And there we went with our instruments to play with the parishioners of the pubs in Dublin and Cork, and to see what type of reaction we would receive from the irish public. As they didn´t chase us out, we considered it a huge success.
What is happening to Irish music is what happened in its time to french polyphony, to italian opera and to American Jazz: it is crossing its own country´s borders.
The musicians who form this group were born in the four provinces of western Andalusia, and we would like to think that this brings extra colour to this complex Irish Universe.
