Biography

“A warm and colourful performer with a refreshing left of centre stage persona” Urban Country Music Festival Talent Search

It’s a childhood split between the Beach and the Bush which gives this girl her warm, laid back and earthy folk-country style. Crisp vocals, sweet guitar picking and an obvious passion for story telling through song are what make Amy Hill a captivating and refreshingly quirky performer.

From a musical family, her earliest musical influences were the family jam sessions when she was a kid. Always singing while her Mum and Dad played the guitar and banjo, it was at 16 that she grabbed one of her Dad’s song books and taught herself “The Times Are A Changin” and she was hooked. It was obvious she was a natural. From here, she became a sponge, absorbing every aspect of music she could lay her hands on…

Returning to Australia in early 2008, after living and performing in Brighton, England for 2 years, Amy won the Voice of Urban Country Music contest at the Urban Country Music Festival in Caboolture. Judges praised Amy on her unique song writing and quirky stage personality. As part of her prize, Amy recorded her first EP, “Back to the Green”, and has since been promoting it on the live music circuit throughout Brisbane.

Amy’s song writing flows naturally and honestly. Her talent and passion for imaginative story writing as a child has inevitably transpired into thoughtful as well as thought provoking story telling as a performer. Her vocals have an almost spiritual way of allowing audiences to forget their worries and feel at ease. Song writing inspiration is drawn from the world around her, in particular nature. Her love of open roads, sweeping coast lines and the Australian bush is clearly what feeds her soul and makes this country girl tick.

Road Trip

Written By: Amy Hill

Oh it's a road trip
With my best friend beside me
And oh it's a long way and we're following the Eastern sea
And the road it grows so slowly
Plenty of room to breathe
And we're travelling so freely
No where I'd rather be

So we set out with two things in mind
Music and the sun
And the colourful people along the way
Make for much more fun
And we're lead by our own senses
The music lets us be anyone
And as we laugh and smile our way through this trip
This friendship can't be un-done

Oh oh oh.........

With the clouds rolling by
And the hills rolling on
It's nature at it's best
The birds in the trees
And the waves crashing in
How much better could t get
Guitar in my hands
And your hands on the wheel
The trip goes on and on
It's the road trip that makes me feel how I feel
Me and my best friend driving along

Oh oh oh....

Guitar in my hands
And your hands on the wheel

It's the road trip that makes me feel how I feel

It makes me feel how I feel

It makes me feel how I feel .......

Blues 'n' Roots

Written By: Amy Hill

Well the vibe’s in the air
There’s happy people everywhere
Dread locked hair
It’s the music we’re all here to share

The mood is high and
There’s a clear blue sky
I’m getting smiles from passers by
What a beautiful place
Oh what a beautiful sight

Well I’m sitting back I’ve got a beer in my hand
Listening to the rhythm of the one man band
Little hippy kids clappin’ their hands
Running so freely with no shoes
And I’m lovin the sound of the
Sweet blues ‘n’ roots

There’s a sea of tapping feet
Tempted by that infectious beat
And it flows on through the streets
Oh how this place just
Puts your mind at ease
And it sets you free
Yeah it sets you free

Well I’m sitting back I’ve got a beer in my hand
Listening to the rhythm of the one man band
Little hippy kids clappin’ their hands
Running so freely with no shoes
And I’m lovin the sound of the
Sweet blues ‘n’ roots

Well I’m sitting back I’ve got a beer in my hand
Listening to the rhythm of the one man band
Little hippy kids clappin’ their hands
Running so freely with no shoes
And I’m lovin the sound of the
Sweet blues ‘n’ roots

Home

Written By: Amy Hill

There’s a peaceful I’ve lived in
A scrubby green land
Nce so alien to me
But now I understand
Not just a house and tress
But a family home
Somewhere I would go
And never have to be alone

And there’s no need for radio
Turn off the TV
The birds will say it all
And if the birds are asleep
He’ll get out his guitar
And he’ll sit around the bon fire
Play for anyone who’s there
He’ll sit at the old camp fire
And play without a care

And there’s a thousand shades of green
In their backyard
And every tree just screams of peace
And it captured their hearts
And it’s on that old dirt road
With not a car in sight
And they’ll fall asleep to the sounds of silence
Every single night

And he’ll remember those bushwalks
Down to that creek
And the sounds of the leaves crunchin
Underneath his feet
And the sun as it glistens down through those trees
The trees as they listen
They seem t understand me

And on those cold Winter’s nights
You can smell the fire in the air
The fire seems to burn so bright cos it’s
So dark everywhere
It was your way of living
Free of worry and stress
That great way of living
Free from the city’s mess

And there’s a thousand shades of green
In their backyard
And every tree just screams of peace
And it captured their hearts
And it’s on that old dirt road
With not a car in sight
And they’ll fall asleep to the sounds of silence
Every single night

It’s time to pack up now
It’s time to leave
Lived there for 8 years now
Time for a change of scenery
But he’ll see this place
Every time he closes his eyes
It’s been his Sanctuary
It’s been his paradise
It’s been his paradise
And he’ll see it every time he closes his eyes

And there’s a thousand shades of green
In their backyard
And every tree just screams of peace
And it captured their hearts
And it’s on that old dirt road
With not a car in sight
And they’ll fall asleep to the sounds of silence
Every single night

Discography

Debut EP 2008 - Back to the Green

Set List

I have a covers repertoire of 90 songs at the moment (it is ever-expanding!). They range from old classics from Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Van Morrison, The Beatles to modern pop-rock and country covers from Oasis, Sheryl Crow,U2, Keith Urban, Ben Harper and many more.

A typical covers set is between 2 and 3 hours long (with 1x or 2x 20 minute breaks). Obviously I am very flexible with set times in order to meet the venue's expectations for the gig.

I have an originals repertoire of around 30 songs. These songs range from folk sounding to country-pop. Again, based on what kind of gig the venue is looking for, I can be quite flexible and provide a purely covers set list, or a mix of originals and covers.

Current set list as follows:
A million tears Kasey Chambers
Ain't it the life Foo Fighters
Ain't no sunshine Bill Withers
All I wanna do Sheryl Crow
All my loving The Beatles
All you wanted Michelle Branch
Bad moon rising Creedence Clearwater
Birds Kate Nash
Blowin' in
