Lyrics

Prodigal Summer

Written By: Amy B. Miller

The years have passed us by and left their mark upon this place
Lost love and sweet regret like a rose upon a pillowcase

We sat here on this porch with the sultry sky upon our skin
And danced with the fireflies until the morning light returned again

And in the evening mist we dove into love like the old mill creek
And laughed until we cried, not a clue that we were in so deep

Chorus:

The sweet surrender of those summer nights returns
With every breath I breathe in this place
And only my heart knows just what I’m searching for
In every line that’s written on your face
I could face a million evenings waiting by your side
Until the prodigal summer returns

And now I search for you in the blue eyes that watch me from your face
I know it’s coming soon but I feel like it’s alone I wait

And all these memories drift across my skin like a cool night breeze
And all the sounds of two kids in love whisper in the night as we try to sleep

Chorus

Bridge:
Don’t know just when it was that you were taken away from me
I’ve got your body right here by my side
But it’s your soul I’m yearning to once again see

Chorus

The Greener Side

Written By: Amy B. Miller

Just another story on the news today
Another stranger gone in a far off place
Except to those of us who knew your name
And can picture the smile on your face

Like a bunch of senseless deaths in a senseless war
Think we can find a way to settle some score
Well there’s some things in this world might be worth dying for
But I’ll tell you, I’m having trouble thinking of them

But on the greener side, there is happiness
On the greener side no broken bones, no broken skin
On the greener side all the tears we’ve cried
Will be washed away like snow melts in the spring
And on the greener side we’ll all have songs to sing
On the greener side

I’m strengthened by the lives of those who went before
Who struggled through hard times but their spirit endured
They carved out a life and made it true and pure
Well there’s something to be said for that today

But sometimes I feel like crying why, God, why
And there’s only silence in this crying sky
Maybe I’ll get to ask Him by and by
But by then, I guess I’ll already know

That on the greener side, there is happiness
On the greener side no broken bones, no broken skin
On the greener side all the tears we’ve cried
Will be washed away like snow melts in the spring
And on the greener side we’ll all have songs to sing
On the greener side

On the greener side we’ll all have songs to sing
I’ll see you on the greener side
