"Local Spotlight: Amy N' Me"

New to the Galveston music scene, Amy N’ Me is an acoustic duo with a surprisingly big sound. The duo is made up of Amy Collins on vocals and Alby Valadez on guitar. Texas born Collins’ powerhouse voice and passionate delivery is especially showcased in their iconic covers like Aerosmith’s “Dream On” and 4 Non Blonde’s “What’ Up.” Valadez’s extensive resume includes years of touring in the U.S. and internationally in rock bands like First Wish and Sid 17 as well as songwriting and experience in the recording industry with Music Square Productions. Collins and Valadez were largely inspired by their trips to Nashville, Tennessee and the super talented musicians they heard there. Their concept for the duo was to take popular country, rock, and pop songs recorded by 4-5 piece bands and recreate them using only two people, a guitar, and some acoustic percussion. Alby’s ability to artfully create a full sound that captures the feel of the original song with just his guitar is quite impressive. Their performances are unique as well. Instead of glued to a bar stood behind a mic stand, you’ll often find Collins playfully roaming the crowd, dancing and interacting with the audience to music from the 50s to present.

Though they released an EP titled “Pretty Beautiful,” in 2017 containing several covers and a few original songs, including the title track to “Pretty Beautiful,” 2018 finds them working on their first all original, full-length album, set to be released in spring, 2019. The album’s country-rock vibe perfectly reflects their personality, with up-tempo singles like “Wrong” and “What’s It Gonna Be?” showcasing their seriously playful attitude. Both Collins and Valadez contribute lead vocals for the album, and they are collaborating with some of the most talented musicians. In the meantime, the best place to experience Amy N’ Me is at 3 Doors Down bar inside the Peanut Butter Warehouse, where they are regular guests. Like peanut butter and jelly, Bonnie and Clyde or country and rock music some things are just better together. Such is the case for Amy N’ Me, the Texas recording artist duo known as “the little band with the big Texas sound.” You’ll definitely want to check out their latest country rock album, “Embers,” which treats listeners to a unique and varied and versatile compilation of upbeat songs and heartfelt ballads. “Embers” was recorded with the help of talented musicians from all over, including Nashville and even Africa! Songs were mixed and mastered by multi-platinum award-winning engineer and producer Brian Reeves, who has mixed albums for the likes of Billy Idol, Elton John and Miley Cyrus. “Embers” is available to buy and stream anywhere digital music is sold. And next time you’re in a bar, look for an AMI jukebox, where you can play the entire “Embers” album. The title track has enjoyed radio play across Texas and the single “Bluebird” was selected for the Texas Country Music Association’s Best Texas Country Picks, V3. Once you’ve fallen in love with “Embers,” you’ll want to see what their live shows have to offer. The pair offer a fun time playfully bantering with the audience and each other between favorite country, rock and pop covers along with their own music. Alby Valadez’s signature guitar sound artfully creates a full sound, and Valadez’s vocal harmonies complement Amy Linn’s diverse vocal delivery, with a tone described as both honest and hypnotic. Individually, both are amazingly talented in their own right. Together, Amy N’ Me is much more than the sum of its parts and a group you’ll want to experience.

In the midst of an uncertain 2020, Amy N’ Me blossomed into a 5-piece band to bring the songs from their “Embers” album to life. Made up of well-bred musicians from across the South Texas area, new additions include bass player Ray Lavine from Galveston, Tx, drummer Roy Riggs from Richmond, Tx, and keyboard player Jeff Knight from Galveston, Tx.

Lavine’s gospel roots were formed in Santa Fe, Tx and he later gained the influences of Pink Floyd, AC/DC and Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue. A classically-trained keyboard player with roots in Arkansas, Knight’s style was heavily influenced by Billy Joel and Elton John. Riggs, a Houston native, has been banging on drums since the age of 9 and has earned his chops performing in a variety of bands comprising virtually every genre.

Amy N’ Me and The Banned is best described as a show band, offering a high-energy audiovisual experience to complement their music.
