A rock laden, alternative folk sound-scape using a palette of clever hooks, thought provoking lyrics and unique rhythmic passages.

Biography

Amy Saia (pronounced “sigh-ya”)
Height: 5’5”
Hair: Strawberry Blond
Eyes: Hazel
City: Olathe
State: Kansas

Those who have experienced Amy’s music agree that her passionate acoustic/electric folk inspired alternative rock takes you on a journey of the soul.

The Kansas City area musician developed a strong desire to write at a young age. Influenced by the deep pureness of the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Lennon’s solo work, Amy is an innovator in her own right.

Undaunted by a predominantly male arena talent, she told herself at the young age of 11, “So what if I’m a girl, I want to be like them… I want to rock!!”. She is confident that her music is surfacing at the perfect time.

In 1998 Amy began refining her skills by joining with the KC Songwriters Circle & doing small personal performances. With many years of “trial & error” song and lyric writing behind her, Amy Saia is finally arriving. Seemingly out of nowhere she is already receiving high praise from local industry favorites and review forums. Amy Saia’s debut project “SOULDIER”, is brimming with an undeniable flavor of alternative-folk rock, a ‘just-can’t-put-a-finger-on-it’ vocal style with a heart & soul lyrical treatment.

Music has always meant a lot to this sensitive artist. As a child she used to escape the pain of living under the roof of a controlling and sometimes abusive father by listening to records and the radio. “Music has always meant something more to me, a profound meaning”.

Amy’s husband Scott, who is also a musician, engineer and producer built a studio in the basement of their brand new home and explained it was for her to record the project. The both of them spent almost a year laying down the tracks for what is being released under Chilaha Records as “SOULDIER”.

After playing small venues and acoustic only support gigs, Amy has hit the road with a full 4 piece classic rock band to faithfully reproduce and promote the release of the "SOULDIER" album.

"We believe in the material, the crowds dig the tunes and I love performing it too."

It proves the old adage that, ‘if you work hard good things will happen… and if you believe, then they already have’.”

Lyrics

Broken Down Car

Written By: Amy Saia

I remember Father with a bible in his hand
Hiding in the basement
like an ostrich in the sand

I remember Mother walking by the schoolyard
On her way to work each day
'cause we didn't have a car

BRIDGE:
Sometimes you swim
Even though you want to drown

I remember Brother
When the bullies made him cry
Sitting in his blue room
With my mother by his side

I remember sister
With her gold flowing hair
Dancing to the music
Like she didn't have a care

BRIDGE:
Sometimes you smile
When the smile feeling comes

I remember dreaming
In the Broken down car
The one that sat abandoned
In the Thurmon's front yard

Last Things First

Written By: Amy Saia - Tommy Atkins

Last things first,
first things last,
Look to future-
forget about the past.

The pages are turning,
the world is moving fast,
Last things first,
first things last,

Don’t give up
when you’re getting down,
If you think you’re lost,
you will be found.
When you feel alone,
I’ll be around,
Just don’t give up when you’re getting down.

CHORUS
Life… can be very trying;
But don’t you waste your time cryin’
I know… you can be strong and you will overcome everything that might come along.

I’ll be your cure,
when you’re in pain.
I’ll be your sunshine whenever there’s rain.
Whenever you need me,
I’ll be here again,
I’ll be your cure,
when you’re in pain.

Repeat CHORUS

Last things first,
first things last,
Look to future-
forget about the past.

(Living In The) Grand Illusion

Written By: Amy Saia

A smile don’t come inside a bottle,
You got to make it want to grow.
It’s been so long that I’ve forgotten.

You can’t do everything for money.
You can’t get love if you have hate.
It feels so good to know the answer.

CHORUS:
No more losin’ myself,
No more wastin’ my time,
No more usin’ my Grand Illusion,

If you've traveled the road will tell you,
that you can’t get there if your blind
I wanna’ know just where I’m goin’.

Repeat CHORUS 3x:

No more losin’ myself,
No more wastin’ my time,
No more usin’ my Grand Illusion,

I Write The Words

Written By: Amy Saia

He’s too free to claim me,
I have needs that shame me,

CHORUS:
I write the words,
he writes the song.
I know you heard,
it wouldn’t play very long,
But my love goes on…

His love lights the gallows,
The tenement halls.
The empty face,
Where fear goes.

Repeat CHORUS 2x:
I write the words,
he writes the song.
I know you heard,
it wouldn’t play very long,
But my love goes on…

On and on…
On and on…
On and on

My Party

Written By: Amy Saia

When you gonna come,
When you gonna come,
When you gonna come to my party?

I've been here all night,
Staring at the door.
People think I'm stoned at my party?

You, you know I...
I hate to talk for nothing
I'm as silent as the moon
Things, well you know things
That I won't even mention.
Someday, you will be here too.

You call me little girl,
Your only in this world,
and now I stand alone just like a statue.

I think I'll start a fight
just don't bring the cops in
I don't care what's right when I'm without you.

- chorus -

When you gonna come
When you gonna come
When you gonna come to my party...

Work

Written By: Amy Saia

I was gray workin' in the factory all day,
Runnin’ from a bad dream that stay’s,
Hiding from the 5 foot guy that always asked me "how’s it babe?"
Walkin’ down the street
I’m alone,
Talkin to the world in a poem,
Tryin’ to find a cigarette in the jacket that don’t seem to fit…

CHORUS:
What price Gold I’m runnin’ nowhere and,
All my dreams are sold,
got nothing left to give and Ooh my hands are cold,
aint nowhere else to go but down,
Nowhere else to go but down.

Work, sets a steady feelin the kills-
Any subtle dreaming that fills-
Up your blessed being with the loss of youth but makes you kind -
Greedy with my money -
I stand -
wonderin’ how my future was planned -
Throw it in the nearest trash can and walk away.

Repeat CHORUS:

BRIDGE I:
And it - it’s been a long way here,
A lot of things that make me scared,
Like my fathers face,
and my mothers Irish hands,
Why cant I ever lose the fear’ –
or does it make me who I am?

BRIDGE II:
And I - gotta run to hide,
I gotta keep it all inside
I gotta hold my head,
gotta go home make the bed,
I ain’t lookin to win,
but then again I wouldn’t mind tryin’.

Repeat CHORUS:

Nowhere else to go but down.
Down, down, down, down -
Down, down, down, down …

Make Believe

Written By: Amy Saia

Children grow up to be people,
People toting guns and grins.
I grew up to be nothing,
I am make believe…

When you look around are you frightened??
Do you believe what you see?
Don’t look for me I am nowhere,
I am make believe

Try and look into my eyes,
Try to listen to my mind,
but I am nothing you will find
I am...

All the world needs is fixing,
People get your hammers and your nails.
But don’t try to fix me I am nothing,
I am make believe...

SOLO (tremolo)

BRIDGE:
Try and look into my eyes,
Try to listen to my mind,
but I am nothing you will find
I am...

All the world needs is fixing,
People get your hammers and your nails.
But don’t try to fix me I am nothing.
I am ...

…make believe

Souldier

Written By: Amy Saia

Cloudy days are coming,
better get yourself a light.
All men made are equal,
but you can’t tell when it’s night.
Fire burns out quickly and it can’t compete with rain.
Run the race and win it,
but you’ll never see your name

BRIDGE I:
Enter Senior Edison
with his bright ideals.
Won’t light up the future,
But he sure knows how it feels…

This is just a story
of a woman in race,
Look into my… face

I am just a souldier warring in & out all day,
Beads wrapped on my fingers
And a nickel in my grave.
Lonely is my anthem;
lonely is this song of mine.
Take me to the big run in the sky.

Dodging red umbrellas in a lightning war brigade
Crushing hollow shadows where the sidewalk isn’t paved
Reflection on a glass door looking out, I’m looking in
Love gets lost on ghost-like, melting, merging images

BRIDGE II:
Franklin, Lincoln, Washington have their own disgrace
Haunting dirty money with a smile on their face…
This is just a story of a woman who is wise
Look into my… eyes

- CHORUS -

--SOLO--

Some men walk on water, while others have to swim.
Some men think they’re holy and others like to sin.
All men have a purpose, though it’s fading in the Sun.
Just like ice on fire,
death remembers everyone.

BRIDGE III:
Adam and his mistress
took a lonely ride.
How can you get somewhere when you you’re torn up inside?
This is just a story of a woman in the dark
Look into my… heart

- CHORUS -
--SOLO--

Georgy Girl

Written By: Amy Saia

Georgy girl,
you're an ugly one but you're lots of fun.
Do you think that I could come over sometime for tea?
George girl,
it's a funny situation
that you get yourself in,
When you think that you are free…

PRE CHORUS:
You hit yourself over-the-head
with a stick the size of Trafalgar square.
Will he still be hot for you
when he sees you in your wild freak hair?

CHORUS:
Yeah, Yeah, Georgy Girl

Georgy girl with your cartoon eyes and your ballet things.
Running through the rain
with a barrel in your throat.
Daddy's toy, daddy's pride and joy,
But you’re not a boy.
Money tastes like sex,
Tastes like water when it don't.

PRE CHORUS:
You smile so wide you make
Everybody else feel so small
You’ve got to hide
If you wanna
Get anyplace at all

CHORUS:
Ooh, yeah, Georgy Girl

--- Guitar Break ---

ba, ba, ba, ba ba Georgy girl
- repeat -

French Tunes

Written By: Amy Saia

I've got some French tunes in my head.
That speaks of Neptune lovers crossed.
No this ain't money
that I spend.
Just lonely heartache crying soft.

Your eyes are wisdom in a glass.
Your lips are gypsum floating past.
Can I come with you to the end,
My love can make a minute last

CHORUS:
It's a parade of lonely people
Take my hand you've got nothing to lose.
It's a parade of lonely people
Take my hand you've got nothing to lose.

There's poor men lying in the streets.
With poison dripping from their hands.
How can we ever follow kings?
When they have blood like any man?

CHORUS:
It’s a parade of lonely people
Take my hand you've got nothing to lose.
It's a parade of lonely people
Take my hand you've got nothing to lose.

Flesh is Rare Like Gold

Written By: Amy Saia

Chevy was a bad boy with sweet angelic eyes,
Twenty to his lover but fifteen in disguise.
He loved his mom and father, but they never let him live.
They don't know about the gun he bought underneath the Twelfth Street Bridge.

CHORUS:
And he is a train that travels down
No, he'll never be here he’s just around
There's a meaning to this
Inside your soul
Flesh is rare like gold

Angie grabs her needle and she sticks it in her arm.
Sees her baby sleeping, It’s breath is like a song.
The sun is never shining but that's the way she planned.
Wonders where her life is she finds it in her hand.

CHORUS:
And, she is a bird that never flies
Yeah, she's gonna live
Until he dies
There’s a meaning to this
Inside your soul
That flesh is rare like gold

--Guitar solo--

CHORUS:
We are the line that draws the hand,
With an ego that buys
The love in man
There’s a meaning to this
Inside your soul
Flesh is rare like gold

A man lies with his daughter across the railroad tracks.
A train comes round the corner it’s heading for their backs.
He’d had a fight that evening but no one knows for sure.
Just why he'd kill something so innocent and pure.
