AMY VEE ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

It was Amy Vee's enchanting vocals and unconventional guitar style that caught the attention of audiences and industry peers in her early years. Amy's unique voice was sought after, allowing her to perform and record with Australian dance music greats Groove Terminator (as Australian tour support for Moby) and ON (ABC Music Awards Artist of the Year).

Soon after, Amy recruited three like-minded friends to form Amy Vee & The Virtues. The band were the perfect complement to Amy's sweet subversive music, and proved so on the band’s first EP, described by Australian Musicians Media as "truly magical definitely worth having on your play list". The band went on to record their debut album in 2007 and shared the stage with international and local touring acts. The band also enjoyed national airplay and picked up several music industry gongs, including MUSICOZ Artist of the Year (2005) and a nomination for an LA Music Award (2007).

In 2009, Amy returned to solo songwriting and performing, playing several shows in Canada in early 2009 after being selected to showcase at Canadian Music Week. Amy's EP Sleeping Dogs Lie was released in 2010 and followed by tour dates in Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne, as well as a month-long solo tour of England and Scotland.

In 2011, Amy toured nationally with Oz rock icon Jon English as one of eight multi-instrumentalists in a theatrical production The Rock Show. The show (and its incarnations) has gone on to win 2 x Mo Awards for Best Rock Act, an ACE Award for Best Original Artist and was nominated for an ARIA for Best Cast Recording. Amy continues to tour with Jon as part of his touring band.

Amy also toured nationally with The Whitlams' frontman Tim Freedman as keyboardist/guitarist in his band, "The Idle", including a performance on the nationally televised Inside Film Awards at Sydney's Luna Park.

As a soloist, Amy has opened for Aussie and international acts including Newton Faulkner (UK), Luka Bloom (Ireland), Passenger (UK), Jeff Martin, Mark Seymour and many more.

Amy's live performances are enchanting, making tasteful use of live loops, multi-instrumentation and story-telling.

Amy is a passionate advocate for links between community, arts and mental health. Her song Heart-Shaped Space was used on a national television campaign for the Partners in Depression program and she was a guest performer/speaker at the International Arts Health Conference in 2011. She has also appeared on Channel 10's Studio 10 You in 2014 as an arts health expert and to perform one of her songs.

Amy's debut solo album Fits and Starts was released in 2013, the result of a successful $10,000 crowd-funding campaign, with launch shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne complete with six-piece band. She has since continued to tour as a soloist, band leader and guest artist.

Amy is currently writing for a new release, date TBA.

Lyrics

You're Here I'm Now

Written By: Amy Vee

In no uncertain terms I have to say I had you pegged
No sooner than the room was full of you
I knew, I was already bracing
A foreign body, an anomaly
A picture of imperfection
A midnight shipwreck I tried to sail naively through a storm

Be that as it may
There’s no such time or place
You’re here, I’m now
For now we are

Truth is like a brutal friend
Attracted and repelled
So more or less the moral is
Remove your shoes before walking on eggshells
And if Orion has no horizon
And all the constellations fall
Like firecrackers
Beautiful, but only for so long

Be that as it may
There’s no such time or place
You’re here, I’m now
For now we are

Be that as it may
There’s no such time or place
You’re here, I’m now
For now we are

You're Here I'm Now
