"Ana Cañas"

Over five years of jam sessions in the São Paulo night scene have given Ana Cañas a sense of maturity that enables her to color her songs with a jazzy feel and set them to a surprising and innovative musical pace as she finds best. Her great first CD, “Amor e Caos” (“Love and Chaos”), released through SONY MUSIC, strikes the listener as personal and bold, as well as being a far cry from what has become known as MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). Her strong, charismatic contralto voice has turned her into one of the greatest recent new names in Brazilian music, even before she recorded her first CD. She boasts admirers by the likes of Chico Buarque, Toquinho, Seu Jorge, Jorge Mautner and other big names on the Brazilian musical scene.
The talent of this young, 27 year-old born in the city of São Paulo has also been recognized internationally - Fito Paez is a big fan. On his recent trip to Brazil, the Argentinian rock star invited Ana to join him on stage in Rio de Janeiro. In her next concert in São Paulo, on September 28th , Ana Cañas will share the stage with none other than Sergio Dias, from the legendary band Mutantes.
Rolling Stone Magazine has called “Devolve Moço”, the song currently playing on radio stations, one of the 50 best songs released in 2007. Pre-released on My Space, the song rendered incredible feedback that led to 5 thousand accesses in less than three months. It was no accident that Ana was nominated in the category “New Artist” on the 2008 Multishow Brazilian Music Awards. On TV, Ana Cañas has been interviewed by Jô Soares on his own show, the most popular talk show in Brazil, similar to David Letterman´s Late Show.
Her first CD “Amor e Caos” reveals her amazing freedom and independence. Not surprisingly, she wrote seven of the ten songs on the album. In this CD, she offers a fantastic rendering of Bob Dylan´s “Rainy Day Women”, set to Fontanetti´s unforgettable tenor guitar.
In addition to Bob Dylan, the album also carries a new version of Caetano Veloso´s classic “Coração vagabundo”. It became a hit on the soundtrack of the Globo TV soap opera “Beleza Pura”. Globo is the world´s fourth largest TV network and its soap operas air in many countries.
