"Anaís Azúl’s “Healing” Is a Baroque Pop Healing Anthem for the Mind"

“Reminiscent of hyper-twee early aughts chamber pop, yet without an ounce of pretense to be detected, “Healing” finds remarkable balance between its lush orchestrations and powerful message of compassion.” Richard Villegas, Remezcla - REMEZCLA

"Anaís Azul's work is always stunningly honest and vulnerable and her new EP with Cathartic Conundrum is nothing short of just that." - Nayem Cardenas-Lopez

"Watch The First Entry To The 2020 Tiny Desk Contest"

"Azul's entry video features a ballad that celebrates showing up fully for oneself, rather than dismissing fragments of our true self to make other people comfortable."
-Tolu Igun - NPR: All Songs Considered

Peruvian first generation immigrant Anaís Azul (she/they) is a singer-songwriter, composer, teaching artist. Formerly of diaspora pop band Cathartic Conundrum, Anaís currently tours and performs as a solo artist and as an ensemble member of social justice choir Voices21c. Her artistry engages with music as a tool for community building, cross-genre collaboration, and collective healing.

Classically-trained with an experimental spirit, Anaís received their B.M in Music Composition and Theory from Boston University with a concentration in piano. Having composed and arranged for theatre and orchestra, Anaís composed the music for the award-winning Displaced: A Response to Qurban produced by the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Her current projects include serving as lead composer for Dance Theatre Surreality in Lauren Hlubny’s 7 Gorges (New York, NY) and co-organizer of Weird Folk Fest (Boston, MA). Outside of her performance life, Anaís currently serves as Arts|Lab Fellow at Boston Medical Center and as staff music teacher at Whole Tone Music Academy (Somerville, MA).
