"You Should Know: Analog Bell Service"

http://www.nxew.ca/2009/04/you-should-know-analog-bell-service.html

Vancouver's Analog Bell Service is not a new spinoff from the phone company. It is a band that features Chris and Mike Leitch, Colin Cowan, Nick Fabin, and CBC Radio 3 producer and Choir Practice member Chris Kelly. According to the band's Myspace:

"5 Guys. 2 Brothers. 2 Atlantic Canadians. 1 Californian. They came together because of a rehearsal space in Chinatown that could only be accessed by ringing a bell on a string. Substance influenced jams were recorded and eventually chiseled into songs. The songs were arranged into a set and played at the legendary 524 Main St parties and the band was born."

Some of you might be concerned about the "substance influenced" part, especially because Mr. Kelly works for your child safe national public broadcaster. You can relax through. I have it on good authority that the substances in question were only green tea and jelly beans and that the band took a cab home from their jams to be sure that all the sugar didn't affect their driving. Bio

Two painters, a cartoonist, a sculptor, and an actor began sharing an art studio in Vancouver's Chinatown. Over the months they became more inspired by the instruments that littered the room and left their other mediums behind to make music.

They recently finished a residency at the Banff Centre and recorded tracks with Steve Albini, Howard Billerman (Arcade Fire), and Husky Hoskulds (Tom Waits, Norah Jones).

They are currently touring and promoting their self-titled debut EP, which was recorded at JCDC studios (New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara, Destroyer) in Vancouver.

Their first single from the EP, "I Guess" is doing well on CBC Radio 3's chart show - the R3-30.
