Bio

Ancher (Verona, Italy)

The idea to form the band comes during a travel in Denmark in the summer 2005.
At first the line up is essential: two electric guitars and a drum-set. The bright “arpeggi” of the guitars dialogue and interweave with a “melodic” drum in a sort of pop/post rock with a mixture of other influences. The pieces are mostly instrumental, with the occasional addition of the voice – singing in English probably for the musical references of that time.
In 2006 the band is noticed and selected from a cultural Association in Verona and has the possibility to record in studio a first Ep of own songs (“Grembiule”, self-produced) and to play live in the “Greenfly Festival” beside Calla (New York).
Slowly the sound of the trio evolves in new directions, adding to the acoustic/electric guitars different combinations of instruments like pian, banjo, theremin, singing saw, flute, trumpet, strings, etc. The decision to sing in Italian leads the voices to be a central element of nearly all the new compositions.
The schedule becomes slower since the three members split between Verona, Venezia (Italy), Graz (Austria) and Reykjavik (Iceland). Despite the geographical distances the project goes on, changing the compositional approach.
In 2009 the band present a Videoconcert – 45 minutes of images and sounds melted together – at the opening night of a Filmfestival dedicated to mountain’s life and traditions (Filmfestival della Lessinia 2009).
In summer 2010 Ancher record a full-length studio album, and till 2011 continues to work on it recording additional instruments also in Iceland and Austria, mixing the tracks in a wood house in the mountains and creating a special art-work for a wood CD box.
The title of this debut album – “verdelegno” (“green-wood”) – reflects two elements who are often present - literally and metaphorically – in Ancher’s words, sounds, drawings.
The Album "verdelegno" is expected to be released in September 2011 for the italian indie label Manzanilla musica e dischi.
