and neither do you

and neither do you

BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

I write my own music, play guitar, and sing. My music is a blend of rock rhythms and folk. As a folk singer who tries to be true to the heart of folk music, i write songs with meaning that speak about how we live with each other and nature in a technological america.

Biography

I was classically trained on flute for five years before I discovered the guitar. I was then trained in rock and jazz guitar for five years and played and sang for a few more. Looking for a new direction I put down the guitar for almost four years while creating music without any instruments. I sampled voices and static and organized groups to use steel bridges as giant drumsets or gather in a room with random steel pieces of machinery. For the last five years or so I have been back to the guitar and writing and singing. I write songs about what I hear people talking/arguing about and hope to convey some message of import to the listener with each song. I currently play open mic nights as job shedule allows.

Lyrics

first ray of sunlight

Written By: andrew senske

the first ray of sunlight falls
striking the child in the temple
then leaking slowly across his features
soon his entire countenance shines
as his eyes open

he stretches his arms open wide
embracing the air loving it
for a moment he is an eagle in flight
exploding outward downwind downhill
running full to greet the morn

gasping air not of morning
nor of trees nor of sea
but of lovers presently passed
mixing his gasps with their own
breathing outward from his soul

tripping lightly laughing wildly
the wind swept to fill his lungs
singing sweet reminisce
and the clouds they went dancing
to his voice

dreams

Written By: andrew sennske

all your dreams are real, more real
than the world around
waiting for the light, inside
never look around
so why do you hide
open up your eyes
and see yourself

I'm still waiting my arms open
my eyes closed to the outside
can't you hear me call
i can see you falling
into dreams
still I don't know why I come back
nothing's changed till you believe
no it's nothing new
I will follow you
into dreams

you're already dead, ahead
all you see is pain
dreams can never heal, they steal
all your yesterdays
so why do you sleep
you know this won't keep
your hope alive

I'm still waiting my arms open
my eyes closed to the outside
can't you hear me call
i can see you falling
into dreams
still I don't know why I come back
nothing's changed till you believe
no it's nothing new
I will follow you
into dreams

dream you're light as air, out there
you've got your own planet
when you come back down, you'll drown
in your own regrets
you've got time to spare
so why don't you share
your dreams with me

I'm still waiting my arms open
my eyes closed to the outside
can't you hear me call
i can see you falling
into dreams
still I don't know why I come back
nothing's changed till you believe
no it's nothing new
I will follow you
into dreams

akenaten's curse

Written By: andrew senske

I'm writing you off
striking your name from the stone
and I'll have your name
and I will have your throne

all of these monuments raised by your hand
will be forgotten and lost to the sand
you dared to raise yourself higher than gods
but your temples will crumble your ka will be lost

I'm writing you off
striking your name from the stone
and I'll have your name
and I will have your throne

There will be no more offerings laid at your tomb
let Set in his kingdom deliver your doom
your heart is heavy the scales will fall
you will not see the god king's hall

I'm writing you off
striking your name from the stone
and I'll have your name
and I will have your throne

you dared to raise yourself higher than gods
but your temples will crumble your ka will be lost
There will be no more offerings laid at your tomb
let Set in his kingdom deliver your doom

I'm writing you off
striking your name from the stone
and I'll have your name
and I will have your throne

your heart is heavy the scales will fall
and you will not see the god king's hall
all of these monuments raised by your hand
will be forgotten and lost to the sand

I'm writing you off
striking your name from the stone
and I'll have your name
and I will have your throne

electric light

Written By: andrew senske

(chorus)
my electric light it hums at night
keeps away my hungry dreams
keeps a watch when I'm not home
keeps me warm when I'm alone
and all the stars have never shined
their distant fire much too weak
and all I've known of me and mine
has been lit by electric light

never seen the sunshine
too much chance of rain outside
just sat inside my concrete cube
and watched the clouds roll by
on screens of liquid light
words on paper long forgotten
in this plastic life
for now we all of us will write
our names in shining dots
of pure and bright electric light

(chorus)

still the sun falls still the night crawls
life goes on unchanged
light pours down as I watch light dance stories for the eyes
to numb the waking mind
unreflected unaffected
light it hides me
light it guides me
light in every nuance of the spectrum races to me
in its hurry to enwrap me
in its trance

(chorus)

creek song

Written By: andrew senske

when I was younger
I would float along in my bed
herons and kingfishers
would dance around my head
children would climb the rocks
look down into my depths
now my strength is running shallow
and I feel the poison's creep
and I wonder what will become of me
and I wonder can anyone see
can anyone see that

(chorus)
I am so much older now
and the scent of flowers
its faded with time
water runs brown not clear
and the birds I've loved
have flown far from here

now your houses they ring my banks
and the deer they have no space
and the trout that sparkled in the sun
have long since left this place
the flowers once so bright and sweet
have wilted and lost their grace
there seems to be no place for me
in this world of man
and I wonder does anyone understand
and I wonder can anyone see
can anyone see that

(chorus)

does anyone really care
if I live or if I die
will anyone notice
when this lonely stream runs dry
will anyone give a damn
will anyone ask why
if no one cares enough to help
then surely i will not last
and quietly I'll fade into the past
but before I go I really have to ask
can anyone tell me

what do you want from me
tell me what you want from me
tell me what you want from me
can't you see you've taken
everything

power people

Written By: andrew senske

I know the cold look of hatred that burns in your eyes
I know the truth of it I can see right through your lies
you tell us we're free but you won't let us breathe
and you tell us what to think until the day that we die

(chorus)
I have been angry and I have been lonely
and I have been beaten down
I have been beaten down
time and a time and again

all of your companies buy what they know they can't steal
and your governments say only their freedom's the one that's real
all of your churches mix blessings with curses
if you had one ounce of soul left
you'd know how I feel

(chorus)

you crucify me for morals you can't justify
and everything beautiful you torture until it dies
you rob me blind and leave nothing behind
but poison to drink and a hole that you ripped in my sky

(chorus)

now one day I will grow wings and on that day I'll fly
I'll take my last breath as slave and I'll say goodbye
your shackles and chains won't lock up my brains
I just pray I will still have the freedom to die

then I won't be angry and I won't be lonely
and I won't be beaten down I won't be beaten down
time and a time and again

(chorus)
