André Siqueira

Composer, arranger and multi–instrumentalist, master in music at Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where he developed a research on the compositional procedures of Giacinto Scelsi. André has a degree in music at University of Londrina/PR – Brazil. He is currently teaching at the institution (harmony and counterpoint, arrangement and guitar). He was a coordinator of studies in music (2008-2010) and professor in the musical arrangement qualification. PhD in Social Sciences at UNESP Campus Marília/SP - Brazil. He is the author of the book Giacinto Scelsi: improvisation, orientalism, writing published in 2011, in which he discusses the compositional procedures and biography of the Italian composer.

In 2011 he presented the conference La voce del Morro: samba e resistenza culturale on the international colloquium Voce dal margine. La letteratura di ghetto, favela, frontiera; accomplished at the University of Siena - Italy and published in the book with the same name in 2012. Participated as a guitarist in ofncerts in Schools - 2012 FUNARTE project. Various instruments were important for building his musical style like flutes, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, 10 and 14 guitars, electric bass and flugelhorn.

In his trajectory, there are experiments in popular culture and research in contemporary music. He has recorded with many musicians and participated in many concerts and festivals. He was selected by Itaú Cultural/Music program in the biennium 2010-2012 collective category within which, in March 2012, attended a concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of Itaú Cultural Institute playing with the composer Gilberto Gil. Participated in the Circuit Syngenta of Ten String Guitar in which shared the stage with Paulo Freire and Levi Ramiro and that resulted in a CD with Brazilian guitar players on thet Siqueira, along with Zeca Colares signs the track Playing with the Children. Also participated in the Voices of Masters Project - International Festival of Popular Culture - performed in Natal/RN - Brazil, playing with the singer Dea Trancoso and shared the stage with Egberto Gismonti. Participated in 2007 of the DVD recording Violeiros do Brasil (Guitar players from Brazil) a Myriam Taubkin production, beside Pereira da Viola. Within this project has already shared the stage with Almir Sater, Pena Branca, Paulo Freire, Ivan Vilela and others musicians.

He taught guitar and improvisation at the Federal University of Ouro Preto/MG - Brazil and at the Culture Arena Project in Belo Horizonte/MG- Brazil. In 2006 , he took part at the 2nd CINEPORT - Film Festival of Portuguese Language Countries occurred in Lagos - Portugal. He was the artistic director and curator of Viola Popular Project, occurred in Belo Horizonte/MG, also in 2006, financed by the state government, encouraged and sponsored by Natura Musical in which "masters" of rural popular culture shared the stage with musicians using contemporary languages. In 2005, was a finalist for the Syngenta Award of Ten String Guitar, held at Alfa theater in São Paulo/SP - Brazil. In 2001 participated at the III Cultural Market, occurred in the Salvador/BA - Brazil. He acts as a musical producer director and arranger with Dea Trancoso, Luca Bernar, Pereira da Viola, Rodrigo Delage, Rubinho do Valle, Titane, Wilson Dias, Zeca Colares and others, besides his own work as a composer and instrumentalist in which Brazilian music and improvisation emerge as key elements.
