Bio

Andrew Abaria is a Los Angeles based Asian-American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who infuses his twenty years of classical piano training into pop music. A graduate of USC’s Thornton School of Music, Andrew is inspired by the likes of Queen, Billy Joel, and Adele, and blends these influences with his classical music background to create a fresh orchestral pop sound.

In June 2013, Andrew released “We Are the Underdogs,” a five-original song EP produced by Mario Marchetti, who is known for producing and writing for Billboard-topping artists, such as Demi Lovato and JoJo. “We Are the Underdogs” is a collection of personal songs reflecting moments of struggle, heartache and loss during Andrew’s upbringing in which he grew up in a three bedroom house shared by 10 people. His parents are Filipino immigrants who worked multiple jobs to pay for Andrew’s schooling and piano lessons. The title track “We Are the Underdogs” serves as an anthem of hope despite life’s obstacles.

Andrew’s first album, “No Man’s Land,” was released in September 2011 and was featured on AOL Music (alongside Jason DeRulo and the Glee cast). The album received airplay in the US and internationally. Two singles from the five-song EP were chosen as OutRadio’s top singles of 2011 and the lead track, “Dark Room,” was reviewed at the annual ASCAP Expo.

Andrew has performed at venues all over Los Angeles, including the El Rey Theater, Shrine Auditorium and as a Kollaboration LA 2012 competitor at the Ford Amphitheater.

Apart from making music, Andrew also explores his interests in health, service, and spiritual growth. After struggling with being overweight as a child, he now practices yoga and mediation daily and trains for half-marathons. Andrew also serves as a Big Brother mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles. He hopes his music can be another form of service to others.
