Bio

Born in Macau, Andrew began percussion studies at high school, and received various awards in the Macao Youth Musicians Competitions.

Moving to Sydney to further his studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Richard Miller, Claire Edwardes & Daryl Pratt, Andrew was awarded various scholarships from 2006 to 2011. During the years, he won numerous performance awards, including the Sydney Conservatorium Concerto Competition 2009, first and second prize of Open Marimba Solo in the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod 2009 and 2010.

Andrew graduated and received his bachelor and masters degrees in performance from the Sydney Conservatorium and has performed with the Macao Orchestra, the Sydney Sinfonia and the Sydney Symphony.

As an active solo and ensemble performer, Andrew has been given solo recitals and invited to perform in various international festivals and concerts including ‘Celebrate Macau 2009’ organized by the Macau tourism office (Sydney office), The World Expo 2010 Shanghai (Australian Pavilion), Australian Percussion Gathering Gala 2010 and The 35th Annual Conference of The International Trumpet Guild as a guest marimbist, also including concertos with orchestras, touring internationally.

In 2010, Andrew was being featured as an emerging artist in Australia and was the only performer as a solo marimbist to play in the Australian Percussion Gathering 2010, sharing the stage with distinguished percussionists such as Steven Schick and Sylvio Gualda. In the following year, he played in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra and the Percussion Ensemble as a guest musician at the Sydney Opera House.

Andrew is an official endorser of Adams Musical Instruments (The Netherlands) and Encore Mallets (USA).
