Bio

Andrew Dahl-Bredine is a singer-songwriter and musician from Silver City, New Mexico. Andrew's unique musical style developed with the rhythms and influences of Brazil, Latin America, Spain, and Africa subtly and almost unconsciously lacing through most of his music. His poetic lyricism, developed through his own unique and unusual life experiences, and also influenced by the Sufi poets Rumi and Hafiz, and Cuban troubadour Silvio Rodriguez, weaves together a startling intimacy and vulnerability with a light-hearted, magical playfullness.

Andrew makes his living performing, writing songs, working with kids through music and nature, and living and rediscovering a life closely intertwined with the wild natural world. His songwriting and performances have won many awards in recent years, including first place in the 2011 Tucson Folk Festival for his song "Campfire".

Initially drawn to Brazilian music, which he learned to play and sing in Portuguese, Andrew’s other early musical interests were Flamenco, various African styles, and Classical Indian Music. After founding and singing lead vocals in the World Music dance band Compás, he started playing solo as well, initially specializing in Brazilian Bossa Nova and other Latin troubador music in Portuguese and Spanish. In recent years, his songwriting has come to be the thing that gifts him the most in music, with over 60 new original songs being born, many of them now available on one of his four solo CDs. His newest album, entitled “Uncover the Beauty,” a 2011 independent release, is a starkly beautiful, intimate, and challenging collection of new original creations. Songs on his last two albums have won The 2010 MyStudio Songwriting Competition ("Navigate"), and the 2011 Tucson Folk Festival Songwriter's Competition ("Campfire").

Through his recordings and performances, as well as through words and actions in everyday life, Andrew seeks to uncover and express what it is to be a human being; to heal, to communicate truthfully, to feel joy and sadness, to be together and alone, and to explore what it might mean to live in balance.
