Bio

After finishing school in NYC, Holtz decided once and for all that his place was on stage and not behind a desk. He left his office job to pursue a full time career in music. Spending a year playing anywhere he could, it was clear to willing listeners that Andrew had inspiring talent. However, it wasn’t until he met the NYC based production team, The Churchills, that his talent was truly unleashed.

After 5 months of recording Andrew came out with 10 brilliantly written and performed songs in a fusion of rock, pop, alternative, and folk with a sprinkle of jazz. Since then Andrew has released 4 of the songs on his self-titled EP. Recently, he has shared the stage with David Mead, The Pierces, and Teitur, and captured an Asbury Music Award nomination for Best Male Solo Act.

Like the usual wave of aspiring musicians to take a chance at stardom, the lanky young songwriter’s passion for music was sparked at an early age by whomever his father was listening to that day. Artists such as James Taylor and Jackson Browne were played continuously around the house. At thirteen, Holtz found his father’s old Martin D35 guitar in the attic. Andrew never put it down.

Holtz’s abilities led to a short stint with the alternative rock band, Linus, where he had the opportunity to open for the now famous New Found Glory and Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carraba. In 1999, Linus broke up, and Andrew began his solo career. His pop/rock upbringing can be seen in his recent writing, singing about everything from relationships, his frustration with working behind a desk, and his favorite city Providence.

Armed with his acoustic guitar, a velvet tenor voice, and a diligence only matched by his creativity, Andrew's music has a casual appeal that is easily likeable and fresh. It is undeniable that Andrew's vocal and songwriting capabilities mirror that of his influences. From Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Rhett Miller, Ben Folds, and The Churchills, Andrew Holtz has developed a unique and eclectic musicality.

Surely if not his pensive tone and breathy pauses between syrupy vocals do not captivate you then his picture invoking lyrics and fresh melodies will. This musician is giving it to you straight. Cover and sampling free. Completely original; Completely himself. More then memorable, Andrew Holtz is one act you must experience to experience.
