"The Five Easy Pieces: An evening of music at Daily Perks"

"The evening began with Andrew Marks, a songwriter recently emigrated (if such can be said) to Rochester from Syracuse and playing this newly-minted Rochester coffee house circuit. His is a straight-ahead modern pop acoustic sound, but with intelligently written songs and solid construction enough to make you wonder why there isn’t better writing on the national level. One song I found particularly compelling was the one he wrote about a childhood friend who had gone on to live in Arizona, but then unexpectedly passed in a car accident. I didn’t catch the name of the song, and perhaps he didn’t say it, but he refrain that stuck with me was “Now you’re a flower.” It was a genuinely thoughtful treatment of unexpected loss." - Thomas Belknap - DragonFlyEye.net
