Bio

ANDREW RACKNOR is a professional alto and soprano saxophonist currently living in Toronto, Canada, and is rapidly developing a reputation as a formidable rising artist. His bright sound, energetic soloing, and unique compositions set him apart from the crowd. He is known for his musical support in a variety of styles from jazz to avant-garde to ska to hip-hop.

His own musical project, titled THE RACKNOR COMPLEX, a fresh and exciting twist on a multitude of genres for which he is the bandleader and songwriter. The group has released their debut EP "Complex Organization", and with it makes a claim for a new sound to further explore.

Born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario, Andrew moved to Toronto in 2007 to study at Humber College, where he is now playing lead alto saxophone in the prestigious Humber Studio Ensemble.

Throughout his college tenure, Andrew has studied with renowned musicians and teachers which include Mark Promane, Pat LaBarbera, Shirantha Beddage, Kirk MacDonald, Denny Christianson and Larnell Lewis.

Reminiscing over his upbringing in Oshawa, Racknor stated, “I wasn't exactly exposed to a lot of music during that time of my life, but it was an ideal situation for me to learn about focus and passion, and to realize what I wanted to do with my life and career. Moving to Toronto was the next logical step for me, and with it came the introduction to styles of music that would greatly inspire me".

Currently enrolled in his fourth year at Humber College studying jazz performance, Andrew has been studying while simultaneously working as a sideman throughout the Greater Toronto Area, playing with many different groups and in many different styles. Not only playing saxophone, he always actively gigs on flute, blues harmonica, and kalimba player.

Andrew is currently playing and recording with a number of musical groups in Canada. He is a member of hip hop/neo-soul groups The Flow and The AllMatter Orchestra, as well as modern jazz groups Midcoast and Geoff Young's Composer Collective.

“Andrew Racknor is one of those rare musicians that always plays with a unique identity and confidence while seamlessly fitting into any style he finds himself playing.”
Ted Clow, Lead Singer and Trombonist of The Flow

Andrew Racknor spends his time performing and composing music with the intention of incorporating his individual experiences and influences into a unified sound. Taking full advantage of his time at Humber College, Andrew is quickly making the transition from rising artist to sought-after musician.
