Andy Gunn

Andy Gunn

BandBluesSinger/Songwriter

Scottish Guitarist / Songwriter that has spent many years paying his dues, playing heartfelt music in the celtic soul vein ala Van Morrison, but with a rougher edge along with some toe curling blues guitar...

Biography

Andy Gunn learned his craft from listening to the old blues masters such as Lightnin' Hopkins and Muddy Waters after tracing the sound back from the rock music music he was originally into as a teenager...immersed in this rich musical heritage, it wasn't long before he hit the big time and signed a worldwide recording contract with Pointblank, Virgin's blues label, with his school band Jumpin' The Gunn. Travelling to Memphis, he rubbed shoulders and exchanged riffs with Albert Collins and Pops Staples to name a few...back in Britain he has since released albums with Provogue and played alongside The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, in Gary Moore's Midnight Blues Band, with Martin Stephenson and with blues harp player Errol Linton.

Personal highlights for Andy would be when he supported Buddy Guy at the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, jammed with Albert Collins in London or backing up Geno Washington at the Tartan Heart Festival.

Recently he went on a busman's holiday across the states where he met and jammed with many great musicians in the big music centers such as New York, Chicago, Memphis, Nashville and New Orleans... soaking up the inspiration and walking the avenues of his musical heroes...

His latest album "Regional Variations" is a great mix of blues, rock and folk music that sees all these influences and experiences blended together to create a sound brimming with soul and originality and will shortly be available through the new website coming soon...

Lyrics

Sweet To The Soul Music

Written By: Andy Gunn

Melting days, one to another, the time caught moves slower
The shadows dance their merry waltz
And the wind is a memory

And all that keeps me sane
And makes me feel I might make it
Falling gentle summer rain
Sweet soul music

Sam Cooke, Ted Hawkins and all the blues angels
Singing in a heavenly choir
Healing transcending through the roof
This pain makes me so tired

but all that keeps me sane
And makes me feel I might make it
Falling gentle summer rain
Sweet soul music

When my heart is breaking
And my step is heavy
And ive seen all I want to see of this world
I soothe my soul, the only way I know how

All that keeps me sane
And makes me feel I might make it
Keep that crow from my window sill
Sweet soul music

No Hiding Place

Written By: Andy Gunn

I can see how you’ve been thinking down all through these years
A current flowing across the ocean, rich in red and gold
You say peace and reconciliation, we say truth and justice
Where shall the two meet
But I want the world to know, how you murdered us,
Men, women, children, for money lust

But hey, no hard feelings, life is for the living
How can you sleep at night,
With a childs blood on your hand, a mothers tears on your mind
And theres no hiding place for your conscience

You knew the dangers, could’ve made it safe, but you put us on the front line, paing with our lives
Now if were here at all, were all bent out of shape
Struggling day after day

But hey, no hard feelings, life is for the living
How can you sleep at night,
With a child’s blood on your hand, a mothers tears on your mind
And there’s no hiding place for your conscience

We are the ones who have to live with your actions,
We are the ones who carry the stigma
In tabloid rags, we read of our imminent deaths
Watch gravestones fall with our names

With love in the distance, a minefield a test
No help just hold on to our secret

But hey, no hard feelings, life is for the living
But you put us on the front line, like dropping canary birds
now there’s no hiding place for your conscience

in the night you cant change, you cant hide
what you’ve done, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide

Back On Song

Written By: Andy Gunn

I hope there’s a clear day coming when you can sit by the mountain side
And you’ll be at peace, with all that you see
And your heart will beat with love

You don’t have to walk that road, I know cos been there before,
I hope it wont be too long, till you’re back on track, back on song

You got so much love to give, but somewhere you misplaced it,
You got fire in your fingertips, why don’t you let them speak before it’s too late

You don’t have to fight the world, there is nothing that you got to prove
I hope it won’t be too long, till you’re back on track, back on song

Swept along on downstream, almost forgetting why we came
But maybe it’s time to hold on, to the melodies of our dreams

You don’t have to walk that road, I know cos been there before,
I hope it wont be too long, till you’re back on track, back on song
