Bio

ANDY KIMBEL

"His music is passionate, energetic and emotionally
charged. Often, Andy will dazzle his audience with
bluesy improvisations making it almost impossible to hear the same song performed twice the same way."

Andy Kimbel is a very talented folk and country-blues performer whose star is rising quickly on the national blues and folk scene. Listen to him play and you will hear the influences of traditional blues, folk, R&B and a touch of New Orleans style roots music.

Hard to pigeonhole, Kimbel has been likened to Lightning Hopkins, Chris Smither, John Hammond and Leo Kotkke. He performs a unique selection of material that ranges from gentle ballads and pointed originals, to hard driving country blues and slide guitar using various tunings and harmonics. His own distinct interpretations set him apart and give even old traditional blues a new face. Andy is a great improviser, often re-inventing words and music using the themes of traditional blues stemming from the early 20’s to the mid 30’s.

"His always expressive guitar playing that ranges from frolicking and exuberant to driving and soulful. Whether picking, plucking, or using a skillful slide, Kimbel brings to the stage vision of the roots of American Music that conjures up everything from rambling railroad trains to dark and lonely nights of solitary traveling"...Big Shout Magazine

WXPN Philadelphia PA declares, "Andy's knocking them dead with his original material!" Andy's picture graced the cover of the Philadelphia Inquirer earlier in his career. The accompanying article hailed Andy as "Definitely the finest singer songwriters doing the blues on the regional scene." Dan Maher of the popular Inland Folk radio program heard in Washington State says: "Some of the most incredible guitar finger picking I have ever heard." Michael Paul, WPGR Wilmington says: "Andy is one of the most talented, passionate and energetic singer songwriters." The Syracuse Post Standard declares: "Andy Kimbel is an emotional force in his own right".

Andy has performed on national television for hundreds of thousands of viewers regularly on QVC's “Jammin' in the Kitchen” with Steve Bryant. On his tours, Andy has played as many as 200 shows a year with engagements at festivals, folk and blues halls, and Guitar workshops. His Workshops are interesting and informative.

The AndyKimbel.com Web continues to receive thousands of visitors each month where Andy’s “Red Hot Blues” averages over 13,000 downloads in the same time period.
