Andy Laird

BandRockAlternative

Andy Laird delivers a melodic and soulful form of alternative rock.

Biography

Andy has pissed off many neighbors with his obsession with music. He also single-handedly got all internet privileges revoked for an entire office at a temp job he worked at briefly because he incessantly streamed various music programs. Starting out as a singer, Andy decided to branch out from the lucrative A Capella market by teaching himself over the years to play the guitar and piano. Since then he has been blending an emotional intensity with a pop sensibility to create a unique form of soulful alternative rock.
His songs have been featured on MTV and radio stations across the country, including hometown station WFUV. Recently, Andy was Featured Artist of the Week on WERS in Boston and will return later in the year for an instudio interview and live performance for their Best of New England week long celebration. Playing alongside some of the craziest jazz (jazz guys are always crazy), funk, and avant-garde musicians in the NYC scene, Andy delivers a searing live performance that spares nothing and leaves behind only a few broken strings and melodies that walk around in your head.

Lyrics

Distraction Of You

Written By: Andy Laird

I could feel you creeping in
Through the door I left ajar
Never could get very far
The distraction of you
Night after night
I can't read the words I write
Leaves without a tree
Scatter before me
The distraction of you

[Chorus]
You are always in my mind
Lost my balance once or twice
But falling sets me free
Beneath a sign that reads 'no vacancy'
We'll devour the air between us as we breathe
And when the dawn
Has come
To cover us in blindness
We'll close our eyes and see/dream/sleep

And you move
Like a gypsy in the flame
In the darkness I'll remain
The distraction of you
And I can't tell
All the secrets that you sell
In the garden of your sleep
In the distance that we keep
In the distraction of you

[Chorus]

I could call the wind to find your name
But it's all in vain
I could wring the light out from the day
But it's all in vain
I could try to find my way
But it's all in vain, it is all in vain

I won't let go
Of the way that you took hold
You buried in me like a tomb
I'm alone here in this room
With the distraction of you

The Grace of Bleach

Written By: Andy Laird

It's the great escape
Of the modern ages
Dressed up like a tidal wave
Blame the tide as you sink

Caught in a web I've made
Full of empty space
By the fingers of dawn or just a trick of the light
The puppet thinks he sees the strings

I feel the rush of traffic in my veins
It's filling up the coffin in my brain
Never enough, no there's never enough

[Chorus]
No, no, I don't know what it means
It must be the termites are getting picky
All that's left here in my head
Is the sawdust on the floor

It's a great display
A masquerade
Dressed up like a tidal wave
Take the dive cause everything eventually sinks

I feel the rush of traffic in my veins
It's filling up the coffin in my brain
Never enough, no there's never enough

[Chorus]

I know now, yeah I know now
I found out from an inside tip
An anonymous source said,
'The jury's guilty'

It's the great erase
Of this modern age

[Chorus]

I know now the jury's guilty
I know now the jury's guilty
By the grace of bleach
I'm washed clean

Dear Mistress Helix

Written By: Andy Laird

I found a way through the maze of sidelines
So be kind enough to indulge me this time
I know these pills are a trail back to where I once stood
And son, you raised me good...

The moon is so full that it spills down on me
The silence is washing me clean
How long have you been here next to me?
My illness is the medicine I need

[Chorus]
It's harder I know
Everywhere that I go
I just can't forget
The way that you stayed after you left
Dear Mistress Helix send down your hand

We'll dance above the land this evening
If we need a line, we'll stretch our shadows thin
We'll keep time like a record after the song
And I've sailed before but never this long

[Chorus]
Because the farther that you go,
You see I drop like a stone
Everytime that I look below

And they'll be searching soon that's right
But I have opened up my eyes
Cause when I see your face here within this light
I just might stay here all night

[Chorus]
Send down your hand, and I will follow
It's harder I know
The farther I go
For those down below
To pull me away
To drag me home
Just don't drag me home
Don't drag me home
Dear Mistress Helix send down your hand

Stone Cold

Written By: Andy Laird

I have noticed lately
A bitter taste when we speak
We'll fight again and then call it love
It's the only time we agree
But there is something about
The slight curve in your mouth
That always makes me stay
There is something, always something
Could be my mistake that made me stay

I'm outside your door
Trying to find a little more
Tell me what you've got that I ain't seen before
Tell me what you've got left to keep us warm

[Chorus]
We have burned it all, in the name of smoke
We have burned it all
We have already burned it all
Your flame is losing control
And now I know that by this time tomorrow
Stone Cold

I have noticed lately
That we hardly ever speak
On our lips there hangs a silence
It's how we've learned to agree
Oh, but there is something about
The slight curve in your mouth
That has always made me stay
There is something, always something
Could be my mistake that made me stay

I'm outside your door
Trying to find a little more
Baby what you got that I ain't seen before
Tell me what you've got left to keep us warm

[Chorus]

I'll be your coat
If you wear me, wear me out
I'll be your road
And you can lay me down upon your ground
And I will crack up just to let you out
Your weeds will pull me down
Your weeds will pull me down

[Chorus]
