FORGET Cliff, Slade and The X-Factor – Coventry may have its own Christmas No 1.

Local songwriter Malcolm Tollan has written his first festive song – and it’s going down a storm in his home city.

People who have heard it have said it’s even better than Cliff Richard!

Malcolm, aged 65, of Leicester Row, city centre, has been writing tunes for 47 years, but It’s Christmas Time Again is the first Christmas song he has written.

‘‘Friends and other people who have heard it say it’s better than Mistletoe and Wine and they can’t be saying that just to please me can they,” said the 65-year-old.

“It is definitely very good being compared to Cliff Richard and having my song compared to such a big Christmas hit. I’m flattered.

“I was just lying in bed one summer night, nowhere near Christmas, and this tune came to me. I thought it sounds very Christmassy and I wrote some words for it.

“I couldn’t stop humming the tune all day and was singing it for two hours solid. It is so catchy.
