"Evaluation"

You selected the following questions for your evaluation:
1. Is there any information missing or in need of review on my web page?

Listening to "Rearrange" on your myspace page and loving it! In this song, it's really the back-up vocals shouting in the background that makes the listener know that it's going into the chorus, and that we're in a new section. While I definitely think that this is commercially viable, think about creating more melodic contrast between your verse and chorus. Both the verse and chorus seem to hang out in the same vocal range, and it's hard to know where one ends and one begins....besides having that back-up vocal tell us. :-) But overall, a very cool, fun song!!

Listening to "Takes Time"...Great, great placement and set up of your title. Very commercial! Again, the production lets us know that you're entering the pre-chorus, just before your chorus. The melody here is still a bit similar to the verse. Work for more melodic contrast again. The chorus is distinctive because it's the title and it's repeated, which is a good writing tool.

Overall, really good, catchy songs!! Work to strengthen the melody at times, and to create some contrast between sections.
2. Is my music ready to be pitched to record labels?

I'm looking at and evaluating your myspace page as your primary website, since fans won't necessarily visit your sonicbids page. I think you're doing a great job at including the essential information, as well as some fun extras. Good job at having links to your other pages at the top, and I LOVE the individual photos with each band member's name and twitter update. Awesome!! I would like to see more photos, however. I couldn't find a place where you have more albums....maybe I missed it? Think about adding more photos- press photos as well as live shots and candid shots with fans, etc. Very cool idea having the video studio blog! Love it.

Think about adding a blog that you update often so that fans have a reason to visit your page again and again. You can take pictures and have a picture blog of an ordinary day, or what it's like before a gig, etc.

The bio is informative, and tells us what you're up to, but doesn't tell us much about your history. Think about adding a short blurb or paragraph about each band member and then how you all became connected. Try approaching the bio in a creative way, and perhaps have someone else write it for you.

Overall, good job on your myspace page!
3. Is my music commercially viable?
Yes! I definitely think that your music is ready to be pitched to record labels! I think that your EP is very professional and the production and arrangements carve out your style nicely. The recording itself is great, and it's mixed really well, with the vocals very upfront (my personal favorite kind of mix) :-) The songs are also very strong and memorable. I think that "Rearrange" and "Takes Time" are the catchiest, so good choice at putting those 2 on your myspace page. Listening to the rest of the songs on your sonicbids page, they're all good, but the 2 I mentioned are the most memorable and radio-friendly. I think it would be easy for a label to put you in a niche and market you easily to the right crowd.

However, keep on going and getting that grass-roots following because they are often the most loyal. The labels like to see that you have a big following, too!

Great to hear you guys! Keep up the great work! - We Are Listening

Bio

A New Divide started playing music in early 2010 with members Tyler Born, Matt Appenheimer, Ryan Krahn, and Braedon Thiessen all originating in Abbotsford, B.C. At 16 we released our fist single "Rearrange". It speaks on the trials of life, and how we as people should do their best to push onward through them. A few months later, our first EP was recorded at the Sound Suite in Abbotsford. Soon after, we began to play shows regularly and establish a fan base all over the lower mainland. In Spring 2011 we released our second single "Tonight". A second release is expected from A New Divide around Spring 2012, so stay tuned, because we are constantly writing new songs and we love to express oursleves through music.
