"CD Review"

Angela Blair is back! What? Never heard of her? Well, then it's high time you corrected this singular shortcoming.

For 7 years, Angela focused on her family, having walked away from her just-rising career -- her desire for microphone, stage and spotlights taking backstage but now awakening to give birth to "Give Me Your Love" -- showing herself to be an impressive mid- to slow-tempo Soul Stylist with a certain kick and swing, her soft yet powerful voice the ever-arching bridge between lyrics and melody. The titletrack and "Rainy Daze" are hopeful, uplifting melodies that ensure Mrs. Blair's future. A complete CD is soon to be released. And please be warned -- we will be taking notice of it.

Introducing Angela Blair

“Destined to Sing”

Angela LaShun Blair (born Angela Gray January 28, 1971) is a classically trained inspirational gospel singer and songwriter from Dallas, Texas.

Blair grew up in south Dallas where she was raised by a very loving family. Her gift for singing and entertaining was evident at a very young age. At the tender age of 7, family members and friends could hear her belting out everything from Aretha Franklin to Whitney Houston. She routinely teamed up with her sister, Rene, to put on shows for the family and anyone else willing to listen.

Church was always a major part of Blair’s upbringing. While other kids her age were eagerly changing out of their Sunday best to play, she secretly practiced with her cousin and pianist, Diane Bowman, after church service each Sunday. At age eleven, Blair eventually put her lessons to the test by taking first place in a contest hosted by the church, as she sang Amazing Grace, in front of enthusiastic church members. By the age of fifteen, she opened her first concert for gospel legends, the Mighty Clouds of Joy and 11-time Grammy Award winning artist Shirley Caesar.

Blair attended Duncanville High and Booker T. Washington High, Dallas’ art-magnate school, known for fostering such talent as Erykah Badu and Norah Jones. Her passion for singing was evident to her classmates as she remained a constant presence in the school choir.

In 1992, at the young age of 20, she married Ron Blair. That same year she was coaxed into riding along with two close friends who were auditioning for the hit film Leap of Faith, starring actor and comedian Steve Martin. Unbeknownst to her, only contestants would be permitted to view the auditions. So she entered the audition and unexpectedly landed a role playing an angel of mercy.

Blair was immediately faced with a choice between pursuing her musical aspirations and fulfilling her commitment as Christian wife. Over the next decade she chose a hiatus from music to assume the role of devoted wife and mother to her then two daughters.

Unable to suppress the image of her previous stage performances and vocal talent, Ron Blair eventually began encouraging her to start performing again to keep her limitless gift intact. Blair remained visible on the music scene earning opening act gigs (thanks largely to the support of a very popular Dallas DJ, Rudy V.) for R&B performers such as Jeffrey Osborne and Regina Belle.

In 2002, Blair was recognized by a Statewide New Artist Showcase in Austin as Texas’ Female Vocalist of the Year. Two years later she was labeled UK’s Greatest Voice You’ve Never Heard. Even though she garnered the respect of her peers and the industry, it took family members to persuade her to enter the 2005 Kraft Gospel Talent Search during the annual Essence Music Festival. Blair took home the grand prize after delivering a show stopping rendition of God is Able.

The talent search experience in New Orleans gave Blair a new found appreciation for the joy she derives from entertaining and inspiring others through song. She immediately placed all of her limited resources and energy into co-writing and releasing her first full-length CD in 2006, It’s All About Love. Her message of love experienced some chart success, achieving the #1 position on the largest site for Independent Soul Music, Soultracks.com.

Married to Ron for the past fifteen years, he is not only her devoted husband and manager but co-songwriter and inspiration for what Blair refers to as “her ministry of love.” Her lyrics are highly personal relationship and life-nurturing philosophies, which frowns in the face of gloomy themes that saturate today’s airwaves. Her inspirational style is best characterized by the over-riding theme of the importance God plays in solidifying relationships.

Blair has much to share by means of her life, love and vocal prowess and she is committed to taking her God-given talent to the highest level. It is her destiny.

The Blairs reside in north Dallas and have two daughters, Haven and Allyson and a son, Nicholas.
