Bio

Angela was born in Yellowknife, N.W.T. in 1975. She spent the first 9 years of her life in the very small Inuit settlement of Bay Chimo (Umingmaktok) located on the Coronation Gulf in the Central Arctic. With only 40 people they did not have electricity, running water or roads.  Angela was moved away from her family when she was 9 years old to attend school in the nearest community on Victoria Island, Cambridge Bay (Ikalututiak) a 1 ½ hour plane ride away.  She was returned to her family for summer, Christmas and sometimes spring breaks.

In the spring of 2002 Angela moved with her husband and her young family to Nova Scotia.  Since moving to Nova Scotia, Angela has been working on writing songs in Inuinnaqtun, her mother tongue.  Inuinnaqtun is only spoken fluently by a small group of people .  She sings to keep her culture and language alive for her 3 wonderful children, so that they can carry it on.  Angela hates to see such a powerful and unique culture die.  This has been the main inspiration for making her CD “Nipiga”.
