"ANGEL CAGE RETURN TO FRAY"

by Brock Olliemann

Brit rockers Angel Cage are reforming to release an album later this year .

Sticking with the "low-fi" approach that has become so popular of late, the band (singer Jean Hare, guitarist Robin Key and drummer Rob Palladino) has already recorded "tons" of songs for the new release (the band's first in ten years since debut 'Sophie Magic') in their own studio.

"There's a real energy between the three of us to put out something fresh and new under the Angel Cage name", said drummer Rob Palladino.

The album will have twelve brand new songs and is self produced and self financed.

"We didn't want anyone else's money getting on the way of our ideas", continued Palladino, "so we'll stick this new one out, see how it goes and maybe it will finance the album after this. We'll have to wait and see."

The new release has no set date and no title as yet.

Bio

Angel Cage were formed from the ashes of Angel Interceptor in 1994.

The quintet were quickly signed to London's Org Records and released the classic Boxtrimmer EP.

Boxtrimmer was an instant success, primarily because of the explosive and acid-tongued lead track 'Princess Die', reaching high in the indie charts and spending over sixteen weeks on the NME playlist in 1995.

'Princess Die' also became an indie radio hit on XFM that year too, while also being played on the national station Radio 1.

They released their debut album, Sophie Magic, that same year and toured with such indie luminaries as Pop Will Eat Itself, Terrorvision and the New Fast Autmatic Daffodils and played around London with Cardiacs among others.

Angel Cage split in 1996, disappearing into the ether as soon as they arrived, never really fulfilling their undeniably massive potential.

Now they're back and about to record a new album in Austin, Texas and it's looking good for a possible release later in 2006.
