Bio
At the ripe old age of 7 years, Angus Gill first picked up a guitar after hearing records of Keith Urban and Beccy Cole. Since then he has never looked back, having country music retiree and mentor William Lane, take Angus under his wing. At the age of 9 years, Angus had his first public performance with the Hastings Country Music Association in his hometown of Wauchope, which started him on the road of song.
After winning his first talent quest in 2008, Angus has kept his dreams high. With his song Names Upon The Wall in January 2011, he was a finalist in the Tamworth CCMA open songwriting competition, and in November 2011, brought Angus his huge win in the ACMF national songwriting competition, lyrics only section. With his $800 prize money, Angus purchased a 12 string guitar, dobra and electronic drum kit to add to his ever-growing collection. His school, St Columba Anglican School at Port Macquarie, won $500, buying 2 new Fender Squire guitars.
ACMF has changed my life, he says.
Angus plays 17 different instruments including guitar, banjo, mandolin, didgeridoo, bass, accordion, harmonica, drums, dobra, ukulele, piano, jaw harp, tin whistle, recorder, stomp box as well as vocals. His styles range from his first love Country to Alternative, Folk, Rock n Roll, Pop, Jazz and R&B.
