"'An Honest Mistake' Agresif Di Pentas"

Kumpulan An Honest Mistake dianggotai Darren Teh, 23, (vokalis dan pemain gitar), Kevin Tan, 19, (pemain bass), Danny New, 21, (pemain biola), Kevin Theng, (Pemain drum), Leonard Chua, (pemain gitar utama).

Antara lagu mereka yang sudah diputar di radio adalah 'This Song Is So Random, I Don't Know Why' dan 'The Snake With limbs.

"Mungkin dengar lagu kami itu agak pelik, tapi itu adalah antara simbol untuk mengenali kumpulan kami.

"Selain itu, kumpulan kami juga akan bertindak agresif semasa mengadakan persembahan selain menampilkan penyanyi perempuan sebagai tarikan," ujarnya sambil ketawa. - mStar Online

"An Interview With An Honest Mistake"

"Comprising of lead vocalist/guitarist Darren Teh, newly-recruited drummer Jone Yeoh, guitarist Leonard Chua, Violinist Danny New, bassist Kelvin “Cottie” Tan and co-vocalist/token rocker chick Sheryl Goh, Pop-punkers An Honest Mistake has taken the Malaysian music scene by storm. They graced the stages of prestigious regional festivals in 2010 such as Singapore’s Baybeats 2010 and our own Rock The World 10, they released their self-titled debut album in October 2010 and are set to up their ante in 2011. But now, we’ve dragged them to a local CD shop (minus Danny, who is currently studying in Australia) for them to discuss about the albums that has defined their musical existences and their plans for this year." - MYC!

"An Honest Mistake"

Malaysian pop punkers (and a former Artist of the Month on Snax!) An Honest Mistake have plied their trade for two years, playing infectious tunes reminiscent of All Time Low, occasionally venturing into screamo territory with Underoath-esque songs likes ‘The Snake With Limbs’, and it’s high time that they came out with an album of their own. Well, they’ve just released their self-titled debut album, which contains seven tracks including an intro track, which may be just a little short of what most would call a full album, but nonetheless, does deliver the goods.

Right off the bat, AHM open the album with ‘Welcome To 1994’, which sounds like it’s piped through an antique radio, which has the unfortunate effect of blurring the vocals, but the pay-off comes when ‘I’ve Got A Hole In My Skinnies And That’s How We Roll’ blasts off with gang vocals and rowdy guitars. Armed with a catchy refrain and lyrics written especially to get crowds singing along, it’s a great starter that leads fantastically into the popular ‘This Song Is So Random I Don’t Know Why’.

If there’s any complaint to be made, it’s probably the lack of variety in AHM’s songs, but at seven tracks there’s not much space for experimentation, though the aforementioned ‘The Snake With Limbs’ closes the album with the impression that it’s the strongest track AHM have, with Darren screaming “Don’t go away!” over frenetic guitars and staccato drums. - music.douban.com

"An Honest Mistake!"

"Honestly.. I have never seen someone so hyper.. so energetic... so crazy on stage than the band An Honest Mistake!! Two thumbs and two toes up!!!" - Armin Baniaz

"Band Review : An Honest Mistake"

So I can't sleep. This is used as an excuse by me to do such things like writing a review of a certain band. I've been thinking about it for quite some time: it seem like this very blog need more stufff on it. I don't want it to be rather empty like my last blog which you probably don't want to know about. With that set in mind, I started writing an entry and now I present to you my first ever band review on this blog... or anywhere in that case. Enjoy.

What better band out there, right now, in Malaysia, to talk about if not the rising Pop-Punk-Alternative-Rock-Post-Emocore-star, An Honest Mistake. That's just the way I describe them for the lack of genre classification I could give to these guys. They're young, talented, energetic and most important of all, awesome.

Some compare them with the mellowdramatic-ness of Paramore (not even close) and the spiky arrangements of Taking Back Sunday, but still, they stand in their own league. I say that with solid reasons and those reasons are the precise drumming that we don't seem to see a lot in today's scene, the more-than-funky bassline (which is usually very very much rare in these kind of music), spiky guitarworks, ingenious formula applications, catchy chorus and verse, and the over-the-top counter harmony arrangements. Not to mention they have a violinist. Extra points and if you thought "Yellowcard!" when you heard violin, think again.

An Honest Mistake released their self titled EP somewhere around October 2010. The CD consist of 7 tracks, each with damn long titles which are;

Welcome to 1994
I have a Hole In My Skinnies And That's How We Roll
This Song Is So Random, I don't Know Why
We're Set on Collision Course
I'm Down With You, If You're Down With it
Light A Match, We Gotta Start A Fire
The Snake With Limbs

If you're just getting to know An Honest Mistake, I'd reccomend their single, 'I have a Hole in My Skinnies And That's How We Roll' (which have a video clip on YouTube). A very much energetic over-the-top pop-punk inspired tune with a personal post-hardcore touch by An Honest Mistake. You'd be suprised as I am on how easily digested this song is (which also applies to most of the song in their EP).

While songs like 'The Snake With limbs' (also have a video clip) and 'I'm Down With You, If Yu're Down with It' seem more melodic and heavy at times, these tracks are where An Honest Mistake really shine with their non-chiche compositions and killer arrangements. I swear, the bassline in 'The Snake With Limbs' could murder any funk fan. Bassist Kevin Tan, really knows what he is doing. Same goes to former drummer, Kevin Theng, with flawless fills and beats that never fail to amuse me. I personally love the sound of this guy's snare.

Violinist, Danny New, have his own role in an An Honest Mistake's song; filling many spaces while ocasionally harmonizing the lead guitar. Same goes to female vocalist, Sheryl Goh, which voice sometimes serve as the main vocal other than her main task of providing harmony and counter harmony to An Honest Mistake's main vocalist Darren Teh ...which is 'The Man' of the band if you ask me. You'd love him if you see him live with his energetic vocals and performance as a whole.

Some may say that the only thing An Honest Mistake needs is a better guitarwork by guitarist, Leonard Chua and frontman Darren Teh himself. I say it fits their style rather well. Less is sometimes more right. I guess it's just a tradeoff with An Honest Mistake's formula application which really emphasis on their radio-friendly-ness. And yes, that would be the other thing I love about An Hones Mistake; their easily digested songs and catchy tunes. Their EP, I gotta say, is simply a sing-along heaven.

Personally, I think An Honest Mistake is a band with a good musical taste. They may play what they like and want to play, but they do it so well. And yeah, if you read this before the 23rd, you might like to see them live at Rock The Youth gig on said date. Who knows you'd be interested after seeing them live. Just check my last post on Rock The Youth.

So in conclusion, if you haven't heard these guys, you might as well do. I can't make you do it but hell, I'm telling you, you're missing something if you don't. An Honest Mistake is a diamond in the scene. - TPMC Music Club

"BAYBEATS 2010: AN HONEST MISTAKE"

I smell a trend! This 6-piece rock band from Malaysia writes catchy tunes with poppy choruses. Like fellow countrymen, Car Crash Hearts, they also indulge in all things pop punk. Having just won VIMA 2010’s Best College Act Award, they are set to take 2010 by storm.

Darren Teh, AHM’s frontment gives up the goods on his band.

Why make music?

Music is an expression of the soul. We all need an output for our emotions. Some people dance, I write songs and melodies. It’s also a way to record my feelings at a particular moment – like a diary but for the world to know.

When did you start making music?

I personally started making music ever since I was a child. I used melodies from nursery rhymes to create my own rhymes. However, I only started making ‘meaningful music’ as soon as I started writing my own songs at age 15.

What is the most important thing about making music??

Writing songs that people will be able to relate to. When people are able to relate with you, the ‘distance’ is bridged and you can tap into their emotions. A catchy tune is also very important; it makes a song memorable.

Where is your favorite place to make music?

In my room. I remember that I used to stay up late in the wee hours of the night to write. Some of my best compositions were written that way. Apart from that, I pretty much write music anywhere! All the time!

How do you keep making music?

I constantly listen to all kinds of music, drawing ideas and influences from them. I try to keep myself updated with the current trend. I’m really into the whole metal into techno sound at the moment.

Catch An Honest Mistake at the Baybeats Festival on 21st August, 6.30pm at the Powerhouse.

Comprising of Darren on vocal duties, resident beat-keeper Kevin, another Kevin on bass, Leonard on guitars and Danny on Violin. "The urban Renewal"

"The focus of the live performances was evidently at the outdoor Lawn Stage, with An Honest Mistake kicking things off. Imprinted with the same emo punk DNA as Yellowcard and Paramore, the young band was certainly enthusiastic enough despite an apparent lack of substance; their sugary anthems seemingly laser-focused at teenage lovers’ cardiovascular systems." - The Star

"Rocked by this band, An Honest Mistake"

"It was my first time witnessed their performance. To be honest, they had awed me to an amazement! Was serious rocked and jumped inside. If only there were more crowds dancing along the field, I would definitely join the fun! You guys awesomee! =)" - lycayenne

"Favorite Mistake- Upclose and personal with An Honest Mistake"

THEY started off distributing stickers and selling cute t-shirts, and now they have exciting female fans in tank tops. With a cheeky-looking green dinosaur mascot in tow, they have just released their debut album.

Furthermore, they have graced the stages of Rock the World 2009, KLue’s Urbanscapes 2010 and recently, the Baybeats Music Festival in Singapore, while being barely three years old. An Honest Mistake (AHM) was originally an acoustic side-project of English lecturer and long-time musician Darren Teh while he was part of a metal band.

Read more »

Teh was composing songs of opposing nature and performing at several occasions before he was motivated to go full force with the project. Today, after recruiting new band members, this poppunk- cum-hardcore-cum-acoustic band is made up of Teh, 23, who leads the guitar and vocals, electric guitarist Leonard Chua, 23, drummer Kevin Theng, 22, violinist Danny New, 21, bassist Kevin “Cottie” Tan, 20 and vocalist Sheryl Goh, 17.

Ever since they started, AHM has relentlessly performed at hot spots such as Laundry Bar, No Black Tie, Rainforest, as well as at universities and shopping malls. This sextuplet has also graced various functions across the country such as Fêtê de la Musique and the Elevate Tour, and not to mention being featured on Traxx FM, and twice on 8tv.

Among all of their kick-butt gigs, Teh professed that their performance at Rock the World last December was the most memorable one by far - thanks to the heavy downpour. “What was amazing was that the crowd of at least 500 were still going crazy, dancing in the rain! We had to stop because the rain got heavier.

Once it stopped, we were called up again and the crowd was packed to the brim, more than when we started. They sang along with us and we were the only band who played ‘technically’ twice at Rock the World 9! It was pretty awesome,” he shared.

However bear in mind that these six young people are not full-time musicians with a secure funding. So how do they cope? “It’s all about passion and time management,” explained Teh, who works from nine to five, as does fellow band member Chua, an events manager. Meanwhile, Kevin juggles between teaching drums and playing for other bands whereas the three youngest members are still undergraduates.

“We all do [fund the band]! We chip in for most rehearsal sessions.” Unlike strong and long-established bands out there, growing musicians like AHM are often requested by event organisers to perform “for charity”. “That’s really going to spoil the market and make artistes cheap. It is quite unhealthy for the scene,” Teh opined.

Nonetheless, all the hard work, commitment and sacri??ce have not gone to waste. Besides winning 4,400 fans (according to their Facebook page), AHM has also won the “Best College Act” category for last year’s VOICE Independent Music Awards (VIMA).

According to them, if AHM were to be nominated in an international music award body, they would want to win Best Regional Act. “We represent Asia and Asia comes up with some pretty good music,” Teh elaborated. “If everyone is into Kanye West and Tokio Hotel, who’s going to listen to the good bands in Malaysia? Most times they’d say, ‘Oh that’s Malaysian? They suck’.”

He elaborated that the problem lies in the people rather than the music scene. “Malaysians just need to be educated,” he pointed out.

Speaking beyond cute band merchandises and quirky long song titles, Teh expressed that the band’s aspiration is to project a positive culture “Don’t let anyone bring you down. Spread the love. Love is THE message.”

"Night of indie music ahead"

IN conjunction with KL Festival 2012 next month, the stage has been set for the KL Indiemusicfest 2012 on July 8 at Laman Santai, Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur.

This is in recognition of the contribution of Indie music in the mainstream music industry. Indie music which began some 30 years ago has created many groups like The Karatz, Nemesis, Glottis, Picagari, Punisher, Black Fire and Rator.

The event is organised by Karyawan with the support of National Cultural and Arts Department (JKKN) in association with the music portal 2crank.com. It will start at 3pm and go on until 10.30pm and entrance is free.

It will feature a mixture of new and established acts like Monologue, OAG, Republic of Brickfields, Subculture, Phunk Mob, Tashy’s Ink, An Honest Mistake, Azure for Janne, Silvergun Superman, Angie Lym & Crew, HWC, BobTheSausage, Bliz, Johny Comes Lately and Instake.

Hear them play: Members of some of the bands Indie performing at the KL Indiemusicfest 2012.
There will be a performance by Indian band Chakram and So’od from the group Roots & Boots will be the MC for the event.

Fans will be in for a treat as there will be an exhibition of musical instruments from selected suppliers and music while all independent entrepreneurs are invited to sell their merchandise and hold entertaining events.

Karyawan president Datuk Freddie Fernandez said the concept of the performance was up to the groups.

He said Indie music was a familiar scene in the music industry and their contribution cannot be overlooked.

“Their contribution to the development of the music industry is significant. Many of them produced their own albums or songs, so this will be a great platform for them to showcase their talent.

“We have the Karyawan youth bureau which promotes young talent as well as make them aware of their rights.

“There is an organisation that protects their rights when songs are played over the radio, at hotels, clubs or on television,” he said, adding that some 5,000 people were expected to attend the festival.

Meanwhile, JKKN cultural development director Rosnan Nordin said the indie festival was a platform for the bands to grow and get recognition.

He said the indie music had its own following and potential for growth.

“We hope to make it an annual festival as part of the sub-events under the KL Festival,” he said.

Istana Budaya director-general Datuk Mohamed Johari Shaarani said they were more than happy to have Indie bands perform there.

He said among the first first Indie bands to perform at Istana Budaya were Butterfingers and OAG.

“The response to their shows was overwhelming.

“Being part of the KL Indiemusicfest 2012 is something special to us,” he added. - The Star

"Local music blog to roll out an unofficial Record Store Day gig"

THERE might be no official Record Store Day celebrations or special vinyl releases made available yet in Malaysia but that has not stopped some local music enthusiasts from observing this annual celebration, now in its fifth year.

What is Record Store Day, you ask?

It is an annual event, which originated in the United States, that finds artistes — mainstream and indie — dropping limited edition, mostly vinyl-related releases, and making them available exclusively in locally-owned, independent outlets worldwide.

Local music blog Backseat Radio II has been inspired by the amount of support received by Record Store Day, especially in markets like the US and the UK over the years.

In a small way, the music blog has cobbled together a noteworthy cast of homegrown indie acts to celebrate an unofficial version of Record Store Day here.

Set to be held today, Record Store Day Kuala Lumpur takes place at Doppel Kafe, Central Market.

It will feature acts that have an album or recording to their name.

“Record Store Day may be more widely celebrated on the other side of the world, but there is no harm in putting together something of our own over here.

“I was inspired to organise a Record Store Day gig here in Kuala Lumpur and I have gathered 14 local acts that have released an album last year and those who plan to release something within the year.

“During the gig, the acts will be selling their CDs and merchandise at discounted prices,” Celeste Goh from Backseat Radio II said.

Expect electro from bands like Tenderfist and Darren Ashley Band, intimate acoustic music from Narmi, Rendra Zawawi and Liyana Fizi, good-natured pop rock from An Honest Mistake, Pesawat, Paperplane Pursuit and Busco, vocal driven rock from Rosevelt and Once Upon a Time There was a Sausage Named Bob, and everything in between from Lab the Rat, Ferns and the Rollin’ Sixers.

The eight-hour event starts at 2pm. Cover charge is RM15.

Blondel is the featured artiste for the month as part of the club’s “Laundry Picks” showcase featuring established local and international artistes on the last Thursday of every month.

Dynamic Australia Singer Chad Blondel with his new album ‘Chase’.
Blondel, who plays guitar, drums and keyboards, made his mark when his song Take Over was awarded Song of the Year by the Western Australian Music Industry (WAMI) in 2005 when he was only 19. He was subsequently nominated an additional three times for work on other albums.

Among the notable artistes he has worked with include Malaysian-born Guy Sebastian (who was the first Australian Idol), Elora Danan, and Lauryn Hill of the Fugees.

“We’re committed to showcasing breakout artists with a potential to become genuine stars,” said Andrew Reddy, managing director of Chaswood Resources, which owns and operates Laundry Bar.

“Chad is an incredibly talented artiste who has also earned kudos for helping other musicians and bands in the studio.”

Blondel’s latest rock-oriented album Coloured Lights has received rave reviews in Australia with favourable comparisons to work by Radiohead, John Mayer, and Coldplay.

There is no cover charge for the Chad Blondel showcase performance at Laundry Bar.

"Spirit of Raya"

One of the best things about Hari Raya is spending the festive holiday with family and friends.

Diana Danielle

Actress Diana Danielle, 20, is all the rage in the local entertainment scene right now. Born in Texas in the United States, and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Danielle’s acting career began at the tender age of 11, when she landed a role in the 2002 film, Idola. She has since acted in films like Evolusi KL Drift (2008), Dalam Botol (2011), Hanyut (2011) and the newly-released Hantu Gangster. Her next film, Sembunyi, is due for a Nov 22 release, which is also her birthday.

Diana Danielle
Currently, Danielle is working on a horror-comedy film called Kami Hysteria, in which she plays a singer in a rock band. “It’s going to be a fun teen flick,” she says with a smile. She has also recorded a Raya song with An Honest Mistake. “It’s a ‘rock Raya’ song in Bahasa Malaysia and it’s called This Hari Raya Rocks. It’s a head-banging number and it’s cool!” - The Star

"Say Gong Xi! Gong Xi!"

Danny New, the violinist for the band It’s An Honest Mistake, which won the Voize Independent Music Award 2010 for the Best College Act, remembers a childhood which had been largely spent overseas. While in the United States and Thailand, New, whose father is a banker, made many Asian friends and had a gala time watching lion dances in city parades, having lou sang house parties, lighting firecrackers and doing the usual round of visiting.

Double celebration: The band members of An Honest Mistake (from left: Danny New, Darren Teh, and Kevin and Leonard Chua ) are celebrating both CNY and Valentine’s Day.
As Chinese New Year also falls on Valentine’s day this year, some will be opting for a double celebration. Leonard Chuah, the lead guitarist of the band, says he plans to send his girlfriend Mandarin oranges shaped in a bouquet complete with an ang pau (from his parents, of course) in Seremban. - The Star

"Symbolic Earth Hour"

TO commemorate Earth Hour recently, UCSI University (UCSI) this year organised an event to raise public awareness about environmental conservation.

The event, “The Pledge for Mother Earth” was opened to public, and featured a hot air balloon for visitors to witness the city shut down for the hour.

There was also the option for visitors to make a personal pledge to be pasted on helium balloons, which were released into the air during the hour of darkness.

Local bands like Disagree, An Honest Mistake, Eve and Halfway Kings were also invited to enlighten the event with their music.

Students enjoying the outdoor concert just before the lights were turned off for the hour.
UCSI student Amanda Marie Paul Dausip, 21, said that she hoped to see as many people participating in the event as possible.

Anticipating her ride on the hot air balloon, she said, “hopefully I get to see total darkness because that would be a sign that everyone is actually participating in Earth Hour.”

Asked what her efforts were in conserving the environment, Amanda said, “I try to use less water by taking shorter baths on a regular basis, and also set a timer to my air conditioner to run only for a few hours at night.”

Her friend, Veronica Ong, 20, agreed, adding that environmental conservation should start from a personal level.

“I think it should start from the people around me because it is down to the individual to make a difference.”

However, Veronica admitted that this was an ongoing struggle as although there are many larger efforts to create awareness, many people still do not understand the importance of doing their part.

“As for myself, I try to reduce my usage of plastic bags and polystyrene containers. I reuse the plastic bags given, and always carry my own container when I buy food.” - The Star

"Sheryl Goh is An Honest Mistake"

Its been a very long while since I featured any local artist in room8five. Well, after stumbled upon this band on Youtube, a lil' bit of stalking information here and there and I think I am ready to introduce to you Miss Sheryl Goh, on of the vocalist from the pop/punk band An Honest Mistake.

She only 19 this year (born January 6, 1993), and she can sing really well. I know, cause I listen to her on Youtube HERE. You know how some band sounds really good in their album but you just get disappointed when you heard them live? Well Sheryl is not the case :D

Anyway, do support the band (or just her). Listen to them, comment, like, thumbs up, stalk, follow, tweet, mention, share and do whatever your social media do best to spread the words. Better yet, get their album! - Room 8 Five

"An Honest Mistake’s Showcase + Second Album Launch"

Yesterday was the official launch of An Honest Mistake‘s second album entitled “Say What You Want, Say What You Will” at Publika. Serge was there from around 1400hrs till about 2300hrs (though the actual event ended at 1900hrs). He after all said and done was as tired as a person who did the marathon twice with no stopping at all.

Besides being really tired, with the hot sun blazing out; we are certain that Serge is tanned though he has yet to look in the mirror today to see how dark he has become. Anyway, this is an account of what had happened yesterday and do note that this is going to take a while to load due to the amount of images and videos.

Serge arrived at the location right after rushing from his Sunday holy duties. There he met Leonard had a quick talk before both went their separate way to do what was needed. Serge was there to cover the event as a whole and Leonard to make sure that those who came enjoyed themselves.

As there was a fashion bazaar, Serge saw a lot of nice clothing and many shops that he knew of. Some of the shops were owned by acquaintances of Serge and he is proud to see how they are succeeding in this. Many of the store owners were smiling and were happy to be there, even though the weather was hot!

Soon enough, the live acoustic performance by many soon-to-be famous Youtubers began. As many of you know, Serge has a certain hatred towards Malaysia as a whole, though he does respect the many hidden talents that it produces. It is unfortunate that these diamond in the rough has yet to be discovered.

Somewhere in the evening, the real show began and it was time to launch the album.

An Honest Mistake went full swing playing tracks from their debut album and songs from their second album. Their legions of fan clap their hands to the chorus of the song. The band members head banged and we could see that An Honest Mistake was having a lot of fun on stage and the crowd was having the same amount of fun, maybe a little bit more.

The final song of the night was If I Told You This Was Real, Would You Believe Me. Later on they (An Honest Mistake) autographed their album for the fan and took pictures with them. At this stage, Serge was about to collapse though he did not as he met a Random Alphabet member who came late.

Before heading back home, Serge, Chris Tock, his friend and Amela chatted up and talked about many things. Subjects in question ranges from BERSIH to Social Media to Leadership and Openness.

Tiring as the day maybe, Serge definitely had a good time with everyone who was there. - Dustyhawk.net

"Say What You Want, Say What You Will - AHM Showcase and First Malaysian Youtube Community Gathering"

And it’s not just an album launch, rather, a wholesome event filled with a bazaar, concerts, YouTube community meet up and even a Joseph Germani Meet & Greet session LOL! The whole event was a BLAST and I had so much fun… Congratulations to An Honest Mistake for pulling of an amazing event at Publika, and super loved the performances right up to the end!

Here I am at @GermaniPro’s booth where he’s selling #GermBands for RM20. The reason? To start his own initiatives so he could do more of whatever he’s doing now. I totally support, that guy’s a self-made celebrity!
Oh and I met @JinnyBoy & @Dan_Khoo too, the acclaimed producers on YouTube (and one of them has just become a YouTube Partner too, congrats Jin and Reuben – make more videos for us to watch!)

And then I bumped into my long-time star, @themingfeed and the lovely lady Marianne who starred with him in several videos. This guy is really humble, and has the talents for sure. Can’t wait to see him at the top

Finally, Darren Teh, Lead Singer of An Honest Mistake and I met and he’s gonna rock Publika down! If you haven’t checked them out yet, now’s the time. This awesomely cool band has been around for some time and has gotten a lot of praises (and fans) and its only a matter of time before they go regional (I believe so!)

Leonard here, the man I can always count on. Thanks to him I was able to connect to many of the people in the entertainment industry. He’s the guy who does the real work and I have nothing but respect for him. Dude, I’ll support you wherever you go!

The event is on its half-way round now and it’s pretty cool meeting really awesome people here, from Dennis Lau the electronic violinist extraordinaire to Baldwin, super keyboardist (and gf) as well as Thong Kai. More people were there but I’ll have to go now to enjoy the music. Until my next update, toodles!
~~~~ CONTINUATION ~~~~
So there was a YouTube community gathering as well, and for the first time everyone got together and took a few photos!!!
The infamous pairing at JinnyBoyTV – Reuben Kang and Jin Lim! (too cute la they all)
This is me trying to get everyone together. Havoc man. What to do, it’s like getting The Avengers together kan? hahaha
Finally together! And I used @BryanLYT’s camera for this, cause mine not very high resolution. Thanks man! To the right, to the right
Here are all of them looking confused Part 1
Now looking confused Part 2. Damn jokers.
Finally got a decent photo of all of them. Super cool list of people here.. can you identify them all?!
Malaysian YouTube Community Assemble!
"An Honest Mistake – An Honest Mistake Ep"
I actually found this band, An Honest Mistake, through a review in HM Magazine’s latest issue (Pick of the Litter section/Issue#149). So I looked them up on Facebook, checked out a few songs and asked if they’d want to be on “Punk Never Dies“. Darren Teh (Lead Vocals/Guitar) actually wrote me back saying they were totally down for the compilation and would actually give me a brand new track off an upcoming album they are recording right now. Then Darren sent me their last album “Self Titled” released 2010, and here we are. Although they are a six member band and feature a “violinist” don’t automatically assume they are a Yellowcard knockoff, they are far from it. I am sure they took the Yellowcard inspiration and built upon it mixing in so many different style variations that results in this explosive, yet melodic 7 track independent ep that we are now offering you for free right here on Indie Vision Music. They are pretty much a “pop-punk” band but they also mix in variants of something called “easycore” which is basically a term referring to pop-punk bands mixing in a little hardcore energy with their music. I call it fun. Enjoy! - Indie Vision Music
"Behind The Scenes with An Honest Mistake in their latest Music Video"
After winning a music grant, An Honest Mistake invited friends and fans to be in their latest music video that will be out on Astro Hitz.TV , November 28th. The video in question is from their latest single “If I Told You This Was Real Would You Believe Me” and as a supporter of all things artsy fartsy, Serge went over and was given an exclusive behind the scenes look of the whole deal.
Of course knowing the manager-cum-significant other to the lead vocal has its perks and downside. For it was probably during 24 hours before actual recording that the significant other ask Serge if he was coming and after saying yes; the other party mention a time. Therefore being the man of his word, Serge went there at that time but earlier.
The location was near the National Zoo at a humongous big house that is WOW and words could not describe it, how on earth did the production crew manage to procure such a place is beyond the understanding of Serge. The house was 3 stories high, contain a pool, a jamming studio, a small office, a jacuzzi and even a gym. One might have had their breath taken away but friends, the amazing part of this was .. this is only the guest house. Yes, only the guest house.
Anyway, reached, park car and went up to see the band members. During this time, some were having their make-up put on and some of their friends and fans were here waiting for their turn to be part of the video. With every band member having themselves prettified (female vocals looks really good here), it was time to shoot the first scene that involves a bed scene!.
Do not think of that kind of bed scene for it is not. In the next scene, band members were place in a closet and was ask to come out. You might now be asking what is this all about, well now; in “If I Told You This Was Real Would You Believe Me” music video that will be out on Astro Hitz.TV , November 28th, this is the concept – a youngster having a rocking party at home without parents knowing.
Soon it was time for the crowd scene that partied with the band members in the bedroom. Before this occur, they (the crowd) was asked to slowly move into the bedroom like soldiers of fortune. It was at this part that Serge was rope in to play part of the crowd and therefore some pictures will not be available as he did not have his camera with him.
Lunch was then serve or was it before the crowd scene? Can’t remember but lunch was Chicken Rice. Continuing with bedroom scene, one of the fans played the role of a snack seller and the crowd shot silly strings from a can. The mess that was made here was something that a iron-maiden maid will quit her job for. Once that scene was done, all of us rested for a bit.
Time was a factor for most of us as the next scene required it to be night time. Thus some of the band members slept, some friends planked and many others continued with socializing with one another and that is probably one of the best deals of the whole event in the eyes of Serge. Speaking about Serge, he was busy resting and conversing with many and then night came and a bollywood-esque scene occurred.
Besides bollywood, lead vocals and the bands bassist.. fingered each other. Do note that both of them are guys and many of us who knew about their recent Thailand trip, laughed our asses off so hard that it had to be riveted back into place. We then had a kitchen scene where the concept was for the youngster who is played by the band member’s violinist to come out of hiding and play the final part of the song.
You could see the faces of everyone, from band members to those who came and even the faces of the production crew was tired. It was all all over after Serge did the final sneak-up scene. There are so many things that Serge wants to say about the whole event but words just can’t describe it and the only thing that he can say is to watch Astro Hitz.TV, November 28th for the video.
"An Honest Mistake’s Debut Album Launch"
So here was Serge at An Honest Mistake‘s album launch in the Sunway area infront of an oxidation pond. This was the Saturday for Serge for an event that was held on a Friday night.
But hey he was there and to be honest is wasn’t a mistake at all. The initial crowd was small, in front of the hall they were selling AHM’s shirt and CD. There was a small jamming session before the doors open for us to get in. Malaysian timing you got to love it and you have to hate it.
After the last artiste perform, the crowd was given a quick 3 minute video of AHM’s birth and their journey so far. A countdown and it was a minute let down as Serge thought that they will play something jamming as soon as the countdown was over. As a purveyor of good music and the arts, An Honest Mistakes did it right by having a small acoustic session.
The cute short and petite Sheryl has a good voice. Though this is the only complain Serge has for the night, in some parts of AHM’s performance the vocals were drowned out by their music. Serge could see Sheryl sing and she was singing, though her voice was barely audible.
Good night world to the bliss of yorkshire and here are two pix of one being Sarah and the awesome Jason Lo !
"An Honest Mistake – Album Review"
Somewhere in October 2010, An Honest Mistake launch their self-titled debut album and it is only now that Serge is actually reviewing their album that comprises of 7 tasteful songs.
For the uninitiated, An Honest Mistake comprises of Darren Teh (vocal+guitar) , Kevin ‘Cottie’ Tan (bass), Sheryl Goh (vocal), Danny New (violin), Leonard Chua (electric guitar) and Jone Yeoh (drums). They are locally bred Malaysians who has garnered a good following since their birth. As Serge had seen them perform live at Urbanscapes 2010 and at their official album launch; he could not make a review.
For doing a review after the launch could be consider bias as he does know Darren and Leonard. So with a break of half a year, Serge reviews this with a clear conscience like that barley water you ordered while having thosai dipped with dhall. To Darren, Leonard, Sheryl and gang; sorry mates, shooting the album.
If there is one thing Serge will complain about the album is how Sheryl’s vocal is being downplayed. Serge has seen her perform life and by the gods of junius seven; her voice is good. However in this album trying to listen to her voice is like looking for a needle in the haystack and for those songs that has a clear voice of her; it’s a waste with a short verse or it is used as a one worded/verse running echo.
Serge hopes in the next album, at least one song will show the vocalic range of Sheryl. The titles for each of their track is somewhat hilarious and these guys if you ever do meet them, they are indeed funny. Track 5, I’m Down With You If You’re Down With It is one of the best tracks in the album.
As he closes his eyes and listen to it, Serge can hear each instrument compliment each other. Nothing over powers the other and it was a serene moment to hear the violins of Danny New. Even though this album has seven tracks and Serge has some quips about some little items; let it be known that An Honest Mistake is an excellent indie band that the music world needs to watch out for. - Dustyhawk.net
"Leonard Chua: Honestly, no mistake"
He has only just celebrated his 26th birthday and he is the lead guitarist for a pop punk band called An Honest Mistake. Here, Leonard Chua chats with Su Aziz about his choice of music, a funny but significant encounter with a fan and just what it means for him to be all that he can be.
Leonard Chua will be one of the speakers helming this year’s TEDxGurney Drive on Dec 9 at penangpac. He has always been passionate about music and making music since high-school. He was born in Seremban in Negeri Sembilan 26 years ago into a musical family – his dad is a guitarist and used to be part of a band during the The Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Shadows era) and his elder brother plays the piano and the keyboard. Leonard’s interest in the guitar sparked off at 15 years old when he was invited to church and saw how music and live bands were constantly at play there.
Today, he’s the lead guitarist for a band called An Honest Mistake that started in early 2008. Its frontman, Darren Teh, started the band off as a solo acoustic project but eventually shared his vision with Leonard. To cut a long story short, they gathered a few others and formed An Honest Mistake. Being an independent band, he multitasks and plays the role of publicist for the band to get their music onto the local radio stations, television and also print media interviews for the band members.
An Honest Mistake belts out rock, more specifically pop punk. ‘I grew up with bands like Blink 182, Greenday, Simple Plan. So, that kind of influenced what genre we play now,’ Leonard admits. ‘On top of that, pop punk music is very happy and jumpy. I believe most of our listeners and fans love it.’
A significant encounter with a fan, he recalls was when, ‘A girl asked me for my hoodie after my performance and she later tweets ‘wonder if I should wrap myself in his hoodie to bed?’. And yes I stalk my fans!’ He jokes with a big laugh.
The band’s very first performance was at the Laundry at The Curve in Kuala Lumpur a couple of years back. This is a bar known for hosting gigs. ‘It was fun. There wasn't much expectation because we did not have fans yet and the ones who came were friends of ours,’ he recalls.
Humbly, Leonard admits to ‘being just another average Joe’, if he wasn’t a musician today. ‘I’d be stuck behind an office desk from 9-5. But wait! I do have a day job as a brand manager from 9-5!’ He laughs again. ‘I love my job and my company is aware of my other life and they give me flexibility as long as I keep performing well at work.’
Reality aside, he dreams of an ultimate jamming session with, ‘American virtuoso instrumental rock guitarist Joe Satriani, followed by Paramore’s former guitarist Josh Farro and lastly would be the guitarist of Malaysia's very own PopShuvit, Jedidiah Wong.’ And being a versatile listener music-wise, Leonard listens to basically everything from jazz, pop to rock, ‘But most of the time I’d listen to electronic dance music.’
So, what does he think he has to offer the audience of TEDxGurney Drive on Dec 9? ‘Truth is I am not a superstar or claim to have made it,’ he replies thoughtfully. ‘I can merely share what I know with the objective of inspiring the audience to go all out to pursue their dreams, plans or ideas which are closest to their heart.’ This is very much in tune with this year’s TEDx Gurney Drive theme of ‘Be All You Can Be’. The he continues, ‘I hope to help them (the audience) to understand that anyone from small cities such as Seremban, for instance, does have what it takes to succeed.’
For Leonard Chua, to be all that he can be means, ‘Living my life to the fullest by pursuing dreams which will bring self-fulfilment and also be able to contribute to the world around us through the excellence of our work.’ And he is not far from fulfilling it either! - Time Out KL
"Great vibes at VIMA 2010"
2010/01/25
DENNIS CHUA
The second Voice Independent Music Awards held recently proved that acknowledgment and recognition spurs talent to soaring heights. DENNIS CHUA writes.
THE country’s premier awards for the independent music scene will from next year be an industry-wide effort.
Siva Chandran, the founder of the Voice Independent Music Awards (VIMA) and managing editor of organiser Voize.my, announced this at the recent VIMA 2010 in Mist, Jalan Liku, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
He said: “It’ll no longer be a Voize event. Nevertheless we will still be supporting it as a member of the music industry. And we’ll be focused on Asia-wide acts in Avima, the Asian Voize Independent Music Awards.” Siva said Voize was pleased to see “superb acts” from neighbouring Brunei participate and win in the annual awards this year and the local awards event hoped in the future to see acts from Singapore as well.
“The Brunei artistes — rock group Karacoma, Feez Madea, Adi Rani and Juju — are amazing talents,” he said.
Deja Voodoo Spells (DVS), Melissa Indot, Kraft and super-group collective The MAD Project comprising Melissa, DVS and Altimet are this year’s biggest winners.
DVS won Best Rock Group and Best Guitar Goreng Riff, while Melissa won the Sunshiney-Smiley-Feelgood song award for I Can’t Smile Without You, performed with her nephews Jeffrey and Jeremy.
Kraft won Best Hip-Hop Song for Diamonds while The MAD Project won the Positive Message Award for its song Change.
Altimet said that Change was all about acting and thinking as Malaysians, and being hopeful of the music industry’s future. “We believe in the power of positive thinking.” Siva added: “It was a massive crowd this time, way past 900 people, with more than twice the number of celebrities at last year’s event. There was just so much action for the organiser to focus on, thus there were a few glitches.
“But it’s been an amazing 17 months since we first came up with the idea of the awards, and we believe that it’s made a difference in the lives of so many talented musicians waiting to be discovered.” Celcom chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly became this year’s most well-known inductee into the VIMA Hall of Fame.
In thanking Voize, he offered to give all-out support for next year’s awards and make it “thrice the size”.
Melissa Indot (centre) with Jeffrey and Jeremy (right).
Melissa said her winning song was one that was “close to home”. “It’s all about the small things in life you care about, and you find them in the ones you love,” she said. Budding singers and songwriters Prema Yin and Amanda Imani hailed the awards as a “major incentive” to soar higher. Prema, who won Best Pop Song for Eyo-Eyo said: “VIMA is the one event that discovers true talent, those who make their own music.” Amanda, who won third prize in the same category for Selamilah Cinta, said: “It’s my first win, and a night to remember forever.” Feez Madea came in second with the song Fly, and considered VIMA the one avenue for Brunei’s musicians to “expand” their following. “It’s an honour to win in Malaysia for the first time, and in the future I’d love to collaborate musically with leading Malaysian talents,” she said.
Another first-time winner Jzelynn Simmons, who bagged Best Digital Album for Percaya, said her award was a triumph for “musical innovation”.
“It’s the right time for all artistes to embrace digital technology. I’m working on another album that’s going to be out mid-year,” she said.
Dance producer Colin Poh of the group Electro Pup said VIMA was the best thing to happen to Malaysian music in recent years. “It recognises talent across the board, not just in vocals but also in dance.” His group shared the Best Dance Act award with Ze! Two-year-old band An Honest Mistake (AHM) won Best College Act. Its leader Darren Teh said he and band mates Leonard Chua, Danny New and Kevin Theng were busy with their first album scheduled to be released in May.
The group behind the hits This Song Is So Random I Don’t Know Why and The Snake With Limbs cited rock groups Four Year Strong and Early November as its inspirations.
Benchmarx comprising expats Steve Northcott, David Ross, Erik Richardson, Gary Blanton and Kenny Peavy marked its first-time competing with the award for Best Live Act.
Northcott said: “Our music is about our experiences in Malaysia, and our song Malaysia Boleh is a clarion call for our students and Malaysians in general to seize the day and be extraordinary.” He said the five-year-old band of lecturers was promoting its second album Smell The Music, and intended to join the Rocking For The Environment concert in April.
Singer-songwriter Jerome Kugan won Best Remix for Tomas. “It’s an award I’m sharing with the brilliant DJ Sugs. He helped me take this song, inspired by a film set in Cuba, to a whole new level, and it’s really good.” Kugan is working on his new album City Of Mud which will be out next year.
Veteran singer Francissca Peter who was one of the awards’ 30 judges described it as “healthy competition” and a means to discover hidden talents. “I was especially impressed with AHM, Brunei’s Juju and Crush, not to mention Neuyabe. They are power-packed and honest in their music,” she said. “Competition was pretty stiff in the rock and dance categories.” - The Bla's and Blurb's
"IF YOU GOING TO MAKE A MISTAKE, MAKE IT AN HONEST ONE"
There's no mistaking it, indie power punk band An Honest Mistake have certainly arrived, in a big yet DIY way. This was clearly evident at their recent album launching showcase that was held in Bandar Sunway., which saw close to 300 fans, friends, family & other well wishers, gathering at the CHC Multipurpose Hall, to lend support to their opening endeavors. - Rentak Sejuta
"MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT , THEY HONESTLY HAVE IT ALL"
We have always had a soft spot for An Honest Mistake for as long as we have known them. After all they are one of the nicest (and among the most polite, soft spoken and humblest) independent rock bands who have maintained that gentle attitude despite growing into a much sought after name in the independent music circuit. Their warm off stage personality, combined with their full on "never take prisoners" kind of presence on stage, has made them a darling of the fans and promoters across the nation, making them a firm favourite at most urban rock festivals. The VIMA 2010 Best College Act award winning band launched their seven track self titled debut album nearly two years ago, with some of its singalong tracks gaining plenty of airplay on urban radio stations Hitz FM, Traxx FM and FLY FM. Crowd favourite "I Have A Hole in My Skinnies And That’s How We Roll" even charted on the Hitz FM's MET10, which also had an accompanying video by upcoming film maker Roy Ajong.
Although, we are fans of the band and enjoyed the tracks on their debut then, we found the production and the vocal quality on the album a little wanting, and shared our frank thoughts with band leader Darren Teh, who took our comments in good spirit and was happy for the feedback. We are extremely delighted to say that An Honest Mistake took all suggestions positively and returned with a more mature sophomore effort, that definitely looks set to stand tall among many other international productions. Their brand new album titled "Say What You Want, Say What You Will" was launched yesterday evening at a free showcase held by the band at Publica Square in Solaris Dutamas. The event which was well received by fans and curious onlookers also featured some of An Honest Mistake's favourite bands as the opening acts as well as a thrift bazaar which was organised by their close friend Bell Wong.
The Darren Teh/An Honest Mistake self produced "Say What Want, Say What You Will", which was mostly recorded at Masterplan Recording Chamber in Bandung, Indonesia, and mastered by West West Side Music in New York, USA, contains 13 tracks that includes eleven new numbers and an even darker remake of their previously published "The Snake With Limbs", plus a bonus acoustic version of "Let's Battle It Out With Vesuvius The Great". - Rentak Sejuta
"THE Benefit feat. An Honest Mistake"
We're sure this band needs no introduction because no other band is as representative of Malaysia's rising punk scene as An Honest Mistake!
Enthusiastic and colourful (esp Darren's bright pink hair) have led them to earn the VIMA 2010 Best College Act Award. Sonic Boom @ Manila and Baybeats @ Esplanade Singapore -- band's popularity? Certified!
So how did we even get such an amazing act on our line-up?
Well, we didn't even know until we spoke to the lead singer at the show! Essentially, he was impressed when he found out we were just a bunch of independent students, doing this not because we had to, but because we wanted to. (And we were surprised/impressed/humbled by the band's willingness to jump on board when we were amateurs running a show who couldn't pay them a single cent!) He expressed that it is important to remain in touch with our human roots -- to give back to society, whatever we can offer.
And THE Benefit is forever grateful that the band felt that way, because they sure did close our 1st act with a massive bang with everyone all pumped up and jumping! ;)
When AHM could have spent a good Saturday night at a bigger show earning bigger bucks, they decided to do a smaller show to raise funds for our beneficiary (MERCY Malaysia). At THE Benefit, we believe in small steps for a massive change. - The Benefit KL
"Make No Mistake, here's an excellent debut"
It was long overdue and finally, An Honest Mistake has its debut album out. Comprising Darren Teh (Lead Vocals/Guitarist), Kevin Theng (Drums), Leonard Chua (Electric Guitar), Danny New (Violin), Kevin Tan (Bass) and Sheryl Goh (Vocals), this indie band makes up one of the latest music sensations to hit Malaysia's music industry.
Formed in 2008, An Honest Mistake which has seen band member changes as it grew from strength to strength, won the "Best College Act" award at the Voize Independent Music Awards (VIMA) 2010.
The self-written and self-produced album has seven tracks formed around an eclectic mix of pop punk fused with a dash of hardcore such as "This Song Is So Random, I Don't Know Why" that has received massive radio airplay and other infectious tracks such as "The Snake With Limbs".
Though a seven track album may fall short of the typical 10 to 12 track-albums; An Honest Mistake's self-titled debut album is quality in one neat purple package. In collaboration with The Upfilms, a music video for "I Have A Hole In My Skinnies & That's How We Roll" was shot during the album launch and will be released later this month along with a live DVD of the entire album launch.
More than 400 people had turned up to celebrate the occasion. In anticipation of this turnout and to show their appreciation, the band decided to reward their fans (also known as the Dino Warriors) with a multitude of performances from the best of Malaysia's indie music scene.
Held at the Multipurpose Hall of City Harvest Church, those who came were treated to the music of An Honest Mistake as well as other well-known bands such as Free To Fall, Rosevelt,and Ash Nair to name a few.
To ensure that their guests did not fall short of entertainment, the band also arranged for the participation of acts like Ariff AB, Never Early, Fragments & Frictions and emo outfit 2Storeyheart who delivered amazing acoustic performances.
An Honest Mistake's Darren and Leonard were given the emcee task for the night as they introduced Free To Fall, an all-girl band to kickstart the show for the night. As the show went on with performances from Rosevelt to Ash Nair; guests were also treated to a fashion showcase of An Honest Mistake's merchandise and a Q&A session with merchandise given out as prizes to the audience.
The event was at its peak when An Honest Mistake finally went on stage to
perform a total of 10 songs ("I Have A Hole In My Skinnies & That's How We Roll", "We're Set On Collision Course", "I'm Down With It, If You're Down With It", "The Snake With Limbs", "Light A Match We Gotta Start A Fire" and "This Song Is So Random I Don't Know Why"), including some that were set to be released in their next album ("Vanessa Stop Dancing On The Table Top, Will Ya?", "If I Told You This Was Real, Would You Believe Me?").
In the middle of the set, when Darren and Sheryl invited the audience for a more upclose and personal session by performing in the crowd ("OMG! It's That Slow Song Again").
Their performance ended on a high note with fans demanding an encore, to which the band performed a newly written track with a message to be strong (Let's Battle It Out
With Vesuvius The Great) sending the crowd into a frenzy, head banging and screaming out the lines of the song. No mistake about it, the launch was a success from start, right to the very end. - Malaysian Today
"An Honest Mistake @ Publika"
If you’re talking about indie band in Malaysia, I guess An Honest Mistake is one of the benchmark that sets the bar pretty high. In my opinion, they’re very well established, not only the music they play but also the image they’re trying to sell.
An honest mistake is basically an alternative, pop-punk band that has influence of softcore genre. Most of their songs are heavily guitar driven songs. This band has no bassist, yet, but they have a violinist, unfortunately he wasn’t there when they perform. There’s also influence of a little bit of electronic on their record but during live performance it wasn’t really there. Guitar riffs are catchy and straight forward. In the song “I Have A Hole In My Skinnies And That’s How We Roll,” during the bridge, heavy guitar riff was perfectly delivered, not too heavy for this genre. Vocal performance is great, especially the female vocalist, big voice for a small girl. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of this genre of music, but I think this band is cool. Their performance was very energetic and I definitely enjoyed taking the photograph while listening to them. As I said earlier, their image is part of their music. They’re very vibrant and colorful. I think everybody enjoyed their performance that night.
They’re releasing their 2nd album on April 29th at the same place, Publika. Check out their stuff and the upcoming event at their page. - dedyandriantoexperience
"An Honest Mistake @ Neverland"
They came, they rocked the stage! Awesome performance, good lighting, and smoke machine equal kick-ass photos.
I went to their gig once before. They have the same energy while performing whether they’re at small venues, clubs, or everywhere. This indie pop punk band is awesome. - dedyandriantoexperience
"Say What You Want, Say What You Will"
Malaysia’s local pop-punk band An Honest Mistake (AHM) launched their second album “Say What You Want, Say What You Will“‘ in partnership with Publika @ MAP, Dutamas on 29th April 2012.
With their first album launch three years ago, An Honest Mistake is determined to bring their second album launch a notch higher this April. Setting up as a mini carnival, this album launch is more than just music, but the materialization of passion and dedication.
Aptly set at the heart of the creative hub Publika Square, the event features fashion bazaar..
..and performances by local acts such as “Hello, Is This The Band?” and “Darren Ashley“, together with An Honest Mistake’s brand new line ups from “Say What You Want, Say What You Will”. The album launch is going to end with a “closing rave” by one of the best female Deejays in town – DJ Faith.
Through “Say What You Want, Say What You Will” album launch, An Honest Mistake desires to unite and inspire the young artistic talents through musical performances and fashion enterprises.
“Say What You Want, Say What You Will” is a self-funded album, recorded under An Honest Mistake’s own recording label.
Their electric guitarist Leonard Chua shared, “Without any sponsor, we worked really hard to produce and launch this album because we truly believe in our craft. We are serious about our music, and we are here to stay.”
From the first album to the second album, the journey is clearly not a bed of roses. An Honest Mistake faced barriers just like any other Malaysian artist in the music industry – there were lack of support to the scene.
“To An Honest Mistake, music, hard work and passion transcend all these barriers. We can’t wait to show you ‘Say What You Want, Say What You Will’. Through this, we hope to gain as much support from the media and most importantly, our listeners,” continued Chua.
An Honest Mistake’s Frontman, Darren Teh commented, “We are proud and yet humbled that as an indie local band; we are able to pull up an outdoor album launch at the heart of creativity hub – Publika all by ourselves with the help from our good friends”:
Of dedication and diligence, there is no mistake that An Honest Mistake is here to stay. - Hype Malaysia
Bio
Malaysia's An Honest Mistake has been nothing short of impressive ever since their debut in 2008. The band, headed up by organizer, lecturer, and musician, Darren Teh, may have seen quite a number of personnel changes ever since their inception, but their penchant for creating catchy earworms has remained the same - in fact, it's evolved. Signing with major label, Universal Music Malaysia in March 2016, the band has just released their debut single, ‘We’re Alright’ (September 2016).
And no wonder. After three albums, countless tours including several trips to Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Korea, India and the Philippines, the band has matured to create a multi-faceted sound that can range from summery pop punk to emotional ballads, and the odd pulse-pounding screamo song or two.
They've shared the stage with renowned international acts like Boys Like Girls, Motion City Soundtrack, and Against The Current to name a few, and the band shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. With more material on the way that's sure to reflect their ability to go between full-on rock, relaxed acoustic music, and heavy hardcore--influenced tunes, it's a mistake not to catch the lads of An Honest Mistake whenever they're in a town near you.
