Bio

"For the most part, I happen to be a firm believer in that timeless adage: “When you love your job, you’ll never work a single day.” I reckon that’s what attracts me so much to music and art. I can never seem to get tired of it. Growing up, when nothing else seemed to offer an escape from the mundane pace of everyday life, I found solace in my imagination. True, everybody has that phase in life. But for a long time I longed to find a way to reach out and communicate to people, to touch lives, and speak my mind. And I think I found something extraordinary within the expansive realm of my imagination – I finally found a talent for creativity, a talent that was worthy of broadcasting to the entire world."

And it was creativity that led Anik to becoming what he is today. A versatile musician, he has been singing since nearly the age of five, and performing live since the age of seven. After immigrating to the United States, and moving through nearly five states, Anik has charmed audiences all over with his voice.
The first signs of his potential emerged in the summer of 2006. Faced with competitors twice and even thrice his age, Anik managed to pull off an improbable victory, performing at the George R. Brown Convention Center in front of an audience of nearly four thousand. Hardly a year later, he would be performing in New York’s Nassau Coliseum in front of a crowd nearly three times that size, and that too with the band of esteemed A. R. Rahman, Academy Award-winning music director of Slumdog Millionaire. But something, he felt was missing.

"These were not my songs. I knew I wouldn’t make so much as a dent in the music world singing covers. So I decided to hightail it to the world of music creation. I made a vow to take up songwriting as soon as possible."

Anik dived head first into the world of music theory. He went from a kid that still had difficulty coordinating two hands on a piano to one that was playing Eric Clapton songs in little time. And in roughly the same time, with the help of very calculative mind and an exceptional ear, Anik excelled at music theory exams. Armed with new knowledge, and with Pro Tools 8 and Reason 4, he was now ready for something he’d always wanted to do.

"So I began writing songs. That is, I tried. The usual result was that I would eventually give up after three hours of brain-ache brought on by writer’s block and cold feet and what not. And that my household’s paper trash output increased five-fold, I think."

Ok, well, maybe another step was necessary. After a twelve-week course with Berklee College in songwriting, things had begun to change.

"I started with some simple songs, some slightly catchy tunes. I was going in the right direction, but I still wasn’t satisfied. At this time, I successfully auditioned and was accepted as one of fifteen singer-songwriters to the 2009 Grammy Camp, which proved to be a momentous experience for my musical life. In that summer of 2009, during the course of Grammy Camp and another camp in July, I started writing songs that really seemed to excite people."

One of those songs was “Love Manual”. At long last, Anik was convinced that there really was some prime real estate in his songwriting capabilities. But wait! There’s more!

"I decided that songwriting itself was not enough, so I took up composition and production. Thankfully, I had some of the best software on my side, as well some excellent repositories of musical knowledge. Many have asked me why I’m taking such a broad approach to music. I guess the only thing I can say right now is that there is no limit to what I can do with music as long as I put my head and my heart into it. I know that’s the case, because time after time it’s been proven true. Who knows, with songwriting and performing talent in my sleeve, I might be a performing and recording artist. If I can understand composition, I can enter film scoring. If I can understand production, I can orchestrate my own music. The road ahead is long. But I'm not afraid to travel it. Let’s hope for the best."
