Down By The Water. And under an Electric Light. Animal Empty aim to share their Black Hearted Love with A Place Called Home as they take on PJ Harvey for AUCW6 Night 1, on September 7th, 2012.

Having free reign to choose from All & Everyone in the rock music archives for their choice of tributes, Animal Empty crept all around In The Dark Places, pushing away the Bitter Branches and weeding out the Passionless, Pointless ideas, until finally a Beautiful Feeling finally washed over them. And, ultimately choosing to pay tribute to A Woman A Man Walked By who sings The Words That Maketh Murder pretty much proves what we’ve known all along. That Ali Ruby, is in fact, No Girl So Sweet.
Backed by Alec “The Pocket Knife” Frisch on guitar, Aaron “The Slow Drug” Cajilig on bass, and Mike “The Soldier” Craft on drums — with Dennis “The Wicked Tongue” Stringfield filling in the percussive gaps — Animal Empty are poised to recreate all of the sex, distortion, and murder that one would expect from a PJ Harvey set.
Claiming that You Said Something one time that stuck with them — Something like, “Is This Desire?” — Ali and company have vowed on September 7th to Talk To You with The Piano like This Is Love. And that night, as We Float together relishing in The Mess We’re In, we will know that Before Departure, before anyone is allowed to make their Big Exit, Animal Empty will have Written On The Forehead of everyone in attendance with White Chalk… “The End.”
Animal Empty are one of many new faces that are joining the AUCW family this year and we couldn’t be more excited for their set. Be sure to tune in tomorrow as we reveal HUMDRUM‘s secret identity and if you’re feeling like you might have a little too much Silence in your life, buy some music at the link below.
Also, you have one chance to catch Animal Empty, as Animal Empty, before AUCW! Hit up The Firebird on August 11th, to see them play with Broncho, Bug Chaser, and Leather Tramp.

First onstage was a real local treat from St. Louis, Animal Empty. If I were to pin down Animal Empty’s sound, I would tell you to put on a Doors CD while simultaneously listening to the Dresden Dolls. I would also tell you out of all the local bands I’ve seen this year, this one appears to have the most talent and potential for a bright future. A multi-instrument assault led by the vocals of the sultry, gravel-throated Ali Ruby. Animal Empty employs a vast array of instruments to deliver their musical charm include a cello, trumpet, and yes, even a trash can and lid were all used during their forty-minute set. One of the standout songs from Animal Empty’s all too short set was “Right Outside”, a song with a haunting keyboard arrangement and a demonstration of this bands musical ability. One song Animal Empty did not play on this night was “Teaching the Dead”, a song that showcases Ali’s strong vocals and a perfect blend of this bands various instruments. If decide to leave the house and check out Animal Empty, they’ll give you a free CD. - Music Tasters Choice

Bio
In 2009, Mike Craft and Ali Ruby formulated an idea that would become the beginnings of Animal Empty. In 2010, the addition of members Alec Frisch and Aaron Cajilig completed their sound. Their differing experiences in life and music came together to create something genuine and raw. While often taking comparisons to the sounds of Heartless Bastards to that of Cursive, Animal Empty listeners agree that the band holds a genre of their own.
Animal Empty - the act of ignoring one's passion in an act of survival; living in spiritual hunger; a life void of purpose.
