An Inconvenient Polar Bear

It was mid-2008, and Justin Bardales, Paul Bethers, and Patrick Day were conducting a late-night instant message discussion of possible band names. The three had been making music together since 2005, when the then-high school classmates formed their band as an excuse to experiment in newly-acquired notions of electronica and indie rock. And now countless failed starts later, they found themselves in the year 2008, endeavoring one last time to make music worth listening to.
The trio desired a new musical beginning and a new name to match. Justin and Pat had settled on one precondition: the name had to involve polar bears somehow.
Paul offered a suggestion as a joke. Justin and Pat took the joke seriously. And so An Inconvenient Polar Bear was born.
An Inconvenient Polar Bear's debut EP, "Tambour et Danse: 5 Movements in E & D," is the sound of three somewhat imbalanced guys making late-night, sushi-fueled forays into sounds most rock bands refuse to touch. In fifteen minutes, "Tambour et Danse" runs the gamut from horn-driven funk to hands-in-the-air trance and bouncy pop-punk to haunting downtempo, somehow achieving stylistic cohesion and never losing its poker face.
The band that took nearly four years to get off the ground is finally growing into its ambitions, delivering a sound that evades classification at every turn.
