Bio

(pronounced /'æna??n/; an-eye-on), from the Greek word ??? (ana), meaning 'up', is an ion with more electrons than protons, giving it a net negative charge (since electrons are negatively charged and protons are positively charged).

Anion was formed in 2010 in a diesel soaked dungeon with one purpose - to create the music that it's members wanted to hear. No scene points, no genre devotion - just a desire to create devastatingly heavy and angular music. Riff driven and intense, the music is hard to pin down but has an underlying foundation of noise rock with healthy doses of sludge and hardcore mixed in.

Anion's live shows are something not soon forgotten, having played Western Canada with the likes of Mares of Thrace, Golers, Galgamex and The Villain Avian Symphony. A full Canadian tour is being planned for the fall with some of Canada's finest heavy bands.

With a 7" and a handcrafted cassette under their belts, the future holds 2 split 7"s - one with Canadian metal kings Wake and the other with local death metal prodigies Galgamex. A full length 12" has begun taking root as well, with it's recording to begin winter 2011.

Here's what a few notable publications/websites have had to say:

"Their noisy, angry, sludgy, pound-yer-face-in brand of aggression is best heard on the hissy 1980 sound of a cassette tape or on the warm and sweaty sound of vinyl." - Terrorizer

"Another local band to keep an eye on, Vancouver’s Anion have dropped a punishing slab of hardcore in the way of their Carrion King seven-inch. Four songs striking a balance between stabby hardcore and slow-drain sludge, Carrion King is the perfect primer to the band and their vitriolic brand of sludgecore. A promising beginning for a band poised to do great things." - Hellbound

"And this is some riffy hardcore, almost a crossover of stoner metal and sludgy doom shit." The Skinny Magazine
