Bio

…there’s the girl who built a castle made of tears…
…the boy who got stuck in a chimney
…the ode to a schizophrenic cat…

It’s all about the Stories.

* * *

Anisa has often been compared to artists such as Joni Mitchell and Sarah McLaughlin. She consistently captivates audiences with stories of life’s trials and adventures that can bring a tear to the eye, a laugh to the belly, or that warm fuzzy feeling you can never get enough of. Her lyrics are full of simple and honest insight, They touch the spirit. Many are cathartic. One fan explained: “It’s like therapy…it’s sincere…. and when she performs, it’s as if you’re in her living room.”

Anisa has been described as “a refreshing spark of musical light“, “provocative”, and “poetic”. She is a down to earth songwriter. Her lyrics are sometimes heart-wrenching, sometimes silly, and usually rich in picturesque detail. These are songs that make you laugh.

Anisa’s vocal style is as haunting as her stories. She composes diversified melodies reminiscent of Joni Mitchell- sometimes low and sultry, sometimes soaring and sweet, sometimes a little jazzy. Her soothing voice also pays fitting tribute to the works of artists such as Sheryl Crow, Pearl Jam, The Indigo Girls, Dave Mathews, and other favorite pop and folk artists.

Anisa has gained notoriety as a singer/songwriter in West Michigan where she has performed for the past 10 years in clubs, coffee houses, music festivals, and private parties. She has been featured on several local radio stations. Her debut CD “How Can I Speak” has sold over 1000 copies.
