Lyrics

Human

Written By: Anisa Kausal-Hayes

You can come back from this you said
To a strung out homeless girl whose eyes were dead
I was broken but you spoke into my soul, You knew I was as far down as I could go

I was desperate, I was hopeless But you hugged me and spoke kindly
And you showed me in that moment- I am human

And what I saw reflected in your eyes
Was that I was just the same as you inside
I was dirty, separated from my good
But I still looked like a person from where you stood

I was desperate, I was hopeless. But you held me and spoke kindly
And you saw that, underneath that, I am human

And you didn’t look right through me
You spoke as though you knew me
You fed me with a smile
And I could have been your sister
I could have been your mother
I could have been your child

I was tangled, I was hopeless
But you held me and spoke kindly
And you saw that underneath that- I am human

You can come back from this you said
And you put your arms around me while I bled
I was broken but you spoke into my soul
And you told me that I still could become whole

I was grateful in that moment When you held me and spoke kindly
And you showed me I am worthy just because I’m human (repeat)

Little Bird

Written By: Anisa Kausal-Hayes

Long long ago but not so far away lived an unlucky girl who had nothing to say
She wandered the night hunting ghosts by the light of her eyes that burned with sorrow

She spent all of her days watching herself in a dream but she always saw somebody else
In that reflection of hers she just couldn’t see the beautiful girl that she wanted to be

Fly away, come fly over the rainbow
There is such a place and you're gonna go
It’s your life take your dreams and unfold them, the world will be open to you
But you must believe that you are worth the fight of your life little bird

She slept on the wings of fairies and angels and cried for the things she couldn’t believe
And the truth of her sweetness danced just behind her a shadow of love under all the deceipt

Fly away, come fly over the rainbow
There is such a place and you're gonna go
It’s your life take your dreams and unfold them, the world will be open to you
But you must believe that you are worth the fight of your life little bird

I’ve been there before, I know that it’s hard
to just be yourself when you don’t know who you are
To try to build dreams you don’t feel you deserve
when your soul is a broken mirror

But there’s a candle inside- a glimmer of light
you must fan into flames with all of your might
And that unlucky girl who had nothing to say
will shout out her freedom as she flies away

Someday… you’ll fly over the rainbow
There is such a place and you’re gonna go
It’s your life take your dreams and unfold them, the world will be open to you
And you must believe that you are worth the fight of your life
To belong to yourself, you belong to yourself little bird

Carry the Torch

Written By: Anisa Kausal-Hayes

V1
Little girl I’ve found
Are you longing for a place upon the ground
Are you seeing what’s real and what’s apart from truth
Don’t get lost inside the fog
You might lose yourself

PRE-CHORUS:
And you cannot stay in the shadows forever
You cannot bury yourself in the trenches
So come out of hiding, get up and fight your way back to the dawn

CHORUS:
And He’ll give you a torch to light your way in these turbulent days
Scarred, battered, and worn you’ll fight your way through this difficult stage
And you are not alone
You are not alone

V2
There’s a voice inside my soul
And she’s crying for the courage to let go
And I’m trying to heal a broken faith in love
So I offer up my heart and let God fill it up

PRE-CHORUS:
And I’m starting to learn, I’m starting to trust
I’m starting to know why He tests me so much
I see now the moment I rip myself open I will be made whole

CHORUS:
And I carry the torch to light my way in these turbulent days
Scarred, battered, and worn I’ll fight my way through this difficult stage
And I am not alone
I am not alone

V3
Now I’m gathering my dreams
Life is changing
I am answering a call and I’m making my way across the lines drawn by fear
And I will not be paralyzed by the trials of these years

PRE-CHORUS:
And when this churning world seems so broken apart
And it’s so hard to listen, to know where to start
I pick up the pieces, hold them together and give them to God

CHORUS: And I carry the torch to light my way in these turbulent days
Scarred, battered, and worn I'll fight my way through this difficult stage
And I am not alone
I am not alone

EXTENDED PRE-CHORUS:
I know that as people come into our lives
We must be open and honestly try
To learn from each other, to cherish the graces
To see us as more than an ocean of faces
‘cause we are all students and we are all teachers
belonging to God

CHORUS:
And we carry the torch to light the way in these turbulent days
scarred battered and worn we’ll make our way in this wondrous age
And we are not alone
we are not alone
