Bio

Anitra Howard-Wilson of Willow Spring, North Carolina is a gospel artist who was first inspired by her Grandfather, Eddie Boykin, Sr. to sing in church at the age of 3 and has continued to praise her Lord and Savior through her ministry of song. She was born in Clinton, North Carolina March 30, 1973 to Sylvia Diane Howard and Leondus Melvin.
She graduated from Lakewood High School, Class of 1991 in Roseboro, North Carolina where she was known as the “Songbird” and was frequently selected to sing the National Anthem at sporting events and to participate in talent shows. After High School, she attended Fayetteville Technical Community College where she received an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and then continued her studies at Fayetteville State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, Class of 2005. She received her Master of Arts in Education Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Phoenix, Summer 2011.
Beside her passion of singing for the Lord, she developed a passion for working with special needs and at-risk children which inspired her to become an employee of the educational system. Her resume of education includes positions at Charles E. Perry Elementary as a Paraprofessional, Henley Roberts Head-Start Lead Teacher, McGee’s Crossroads Middle School as a Paraprofessional, The Partnership for Children as the Professional Development Coordinator, and Wilson Community College as an Adjunct Instructor part-time.
Performing at various pageants, church and promotional events, family reunions and weddings boosted her popularity and notoriety for touching the hearts and souls of people through her singing. She had recorded songs with several of her father’s gospel groups but never a solo project. With the help of her husband and manager, Timothy D. Wilson and a recommendation for a recording studio, Anitra started working on her solo project and by the end of April 2010, released a singles CD titled “Re-Examine”. Also in 2010, she released another CD single of her version of a holiday classic, “This Christmas” and completed her full Debut CD titled “Miracle” which was released January 2011 during her CD Release Party in her hometown of Clinton, NC. She has received awesome reviews from her CD releases locally and in several areas across the country via fans, family, and friends. Her immediate goal is to have her music distributed and played on radio stations, nationwide and internationally in the future, allowing her to reach out and minister to all she can reach through her singing.
Anitra’s favorite artists are Mary Mary, Yolanda Adams, and Kelly Price to name a few and hope to someday, meet and possibly sing with them.
Along with being a loving Wife, Mother of four, and Grandmother of four, Anitra truly enjoys singing, working with children and young ladies/single parents. She never takes life and family for granted. Living each day to the fullest is sacred to her. Her lifetime story can help a person with the right mindset become a true believer. She expresses this in her writing and singing. “I thank God for All my struggles. For it was those times that made me the woman I am today. I am a testimony of how God can turn things around in your life for the good.”
In February 2011, she was selected as the winner of the AOL.com Super Bowl XLV National Anthem Sing-Off and was featured on AOL.com Super Bowl XLV Pre-Game Party. She was flown to New York City where she was featured on the “Fox & Friends” morning show and performed the National Anthem live. Anitra also performed live on NBC-17 on the “My Carolina Today” show in Raleigh, NC, highlighted in several local newspapers, and local news broadcasts. Her debut CD “Miracle” is currently in rotation on radio stations worldwide and reviewed on the Yolanda Adams Morning Show during her New Music Tuesday segment, where Yolanda Adams stated “This artist has a Hit on her hands!” after playing Anitra Wilson’s title track “Miracle” during her show on 103.9 The Light. Anitra also had an appearance on the Sunday morning show “Spiritual Awakening” where she performed several tracks from her “Miracle” CD.
Anitra was nominated for a 2012 NCGAG Prestige Award and five 2012 Rhythm of Gospel Awards where she won the category for Urban Contemporary Gospel Female of the Year in Jacksonville, Florida late July 2012.
Anitra’s favorite scripture comes from Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me” and Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
