Listening to Anjulie's self-titled debut CD is like hearing a nice blend of Nelly Furtado and Corinne Bailey Rae, vocally speaking. But what makes this newcomer's album so impressive is the lyrical content.
"He got a knife in my back, stop turning please," she pleads on "The Rain." ''Sometimes I lock myself inside your closet, breathe in the scent of your clothes," she sings on the exceptionally smooth (and appropriately titled) "Crazy That Way."
The Canadian pop singer, whose parents migrated from Guyana, is mostly singing love songs — but not typical ones.
"Keep your clothes off, I'm not rushing out like some dumb girl," she commands on the infidelity tune, "Some Dumb Girl."
Other top tracks include the beat-driven "The Heat," the suave "Colombia" and the mysteriously gloomy first single, "Boom."
Anjulie, who wrote or co-wrote each song, closes the CD with "Day Will Soon Come," where the anxious singer lets you know she'll become a big star. After listening to this top-notch debut, she sure deserves to become one.

Anjulie is a Canadian singer/songwriter from Oakville, Ontario Canada, a suburb outside of Toronto. She was born and raised in Canada, and her parents are from Guyana of Indian descent.
Anjulie is a self-described music addict and has been writing and composing her own music since she was a teenager. She wrote the song "Say Goodbye to Jr. High", contributed background vocals and played percussion for the CD Unfabulous and More. Her debut album was co-written and produced by Jon Levine of the Philosopher Kings. Anjulie met Levine at age 17 while working as an intern at Metalworks Recording Studio in Mississauga Canada. Anjulie was later fired for accepting a lunch date with Levine, but it ultimately led to their partnership and the beginnings of her music career.
Anjulie opened for Jesse McCartney during his United States tour in 2009. Her unreleased singles, "Rain", "Crazy That Way", and "The Heat" have been featured on the MTV television series The Hills and "Addicted2Me" on The City. The single "Boom" has been featured on ABC's Eastwick, The CW's Melrose Place, The Vampire Diaries, and Canada's Next Top Model.
Anjulie wrote the single "Don't Call Me Baby" by Canadian recording artist Kreesha Turner which reached number 8 on Billboard's Canadian Hot 100 in 2008 and number 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play Chart.
Influences on Anjulie's music are as varied as Annie Lennox, Lauryn Hill, U2 and Prince.
She cowrote the single "I Want You" with its performer Fefe Dobson. Music videos have been released and the song will appear on Dobson's upcoming album, Joy scheduled for release in November 2010. "I Want You" has appeared on various projects ranging from promos for TV shows to promos for films to even a version recorded in Simlish for the PC game The Sims 3: World Adventures.
Anjulie's music is featured in the 2009 movie/musical Fame. She wrote and performed "Big Things" which plays during the opening scene of the film.
She was nominated for a 2009 MTV Video Music Award for "Best Breakthrough Video" and a 2009 mtvU Woodie Award for "Best Video Woodie" for her single "Boom".
Anjulie has toured with Shwayze and Bobby Ray aka B.o.B. and she toured Fall/Winter (2009–2010) with Raphael Saadiq.
