Ann Poirier

 Westerville, Ohio, USA
BandCountrySinger/Songwriter

I am a lyricist and have partnered with musicians Gene Castelli and Chad Hamilton to write songs together.

Biography

My name is Ann Poirier.  I'm 29 years old and live in Ohio.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved country music and I have loved writing.  It is a privilege to be able to combine both of my passions into country music songwriting and to be able to get my lyrics out there through NSAI.

My biggest goal in life - and #1 item on my bucket list - is to write a country song that gets published by a country music artist in Nashville.  I am willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen.  :)

Home in Oklahoma

Verse 1 The other day I lost an old friend
Wrote her a family a card I thought I’d send
But something grabbed a hold of me
Brought me back to reality
This ain’t a time that calls for a card
Cause I know when things get real hard
I go back to my home in Oklahoma

Chorus Every time I hit that one stoplight town
Smell that fresh air, hear those familiar sounds
I’m brought up every time I’m feeling down
Feel the love that makes my world go ‘round
And that’s when I find my home in Oklahoma

Verse 2 I left to go chase my dreams
They said, “Hollywood’s not as great as it seems”
But when a 19-year-old girl has made up her mind
She’s just gotta go see what she’ll find
Yet I always wind up back in my home in Oklahoma

Chorus Every time I hit that one stoplight town
Smell that fresh air, hear those familiar sounds
I’m brought up every time I’m feeling down
Feel the love that makes my world go ‘round
And that’s when I find my home in Oklahoma

Verse 3 No matter where life takes me
Over any ocean and through any sea
In the end, I always know where I’ll be
I will always find my home in Oklahoma

Chorus Every time I hit that one stoplight town
Smell that fresh air, hear those familiar sounds
I’m brought up every time I’m feeling down
Feel the love that makes my world go ‘round
And that’s when I find my home in Oklahoma

In the Place You Are Mine

Written By: Ann Poirier

In the Place You Are Mine

(Written to the tune of Lauren Alaina’s song “Eighteen Inches”)

Verse 1 People pass by a million miles an hour
So much to do and just so little time
Everyone wants love but won’t wait for the real thing
I found it all in the place you are mine

Verse 2 Life keeps rollin’ on, day after day
Love stories in our dreams, but who has time for those?
What we really want just gets pushed to the wayside
But I found what’s right and I won’t let it go

Chorus Cause when you find that one piece you’ve dreamed of
There’s no use in waitin’ or wastin’ your time
Through all those world, crazy moments
I find this real love in the place you are mine

Verse 3 It’s so easy to sit back and find comfort
In starin’ out the window watchin’ life pass you by
But when I look back on my life at the end
I will take pride in knowing I made you mine

Chorus Cause when you find that one piece you’ve dreamed of
There’s no use in waitin’ or wastin’ your time
Through all those world, crazy moments
I find this real love in the place you are mine

Verse 4 Don’t listen to them
You create your own reality
Make it a life and love you’re proud of

Verse 5 Life is too short to just go through the motions
And love should be better than just following the line
When I found you, I found the love we all search for
And I will forever rest easy lovin’ that you are mine

Chorus Cause when you find that one piece you’ve dreamed of
There’s no use in waitin’ or wastin’ your time
Through all those world, crazy moments
I find this real love in the place you are mine

Letter to God

Written By: Ann Poirier

Letter to God

(Written to the tune of Lauren Alaina’s song “Dirt Road Prayer”)

Verse 1 Keep my family out of harm’s way
They’re one in a million
And oh, I know I’m blessed
Let my friends know your protection
True friendship’s so rare
But somehow I found it here
Give my true love a little kiss from Heaven
He’s so good to me, and I just love his love
Send down sunshine on all your miracles
The ones who don’t want love
Are the ones who need it most

Chorus So I take time to kneel by my bed
Speak all the words that are in my head
Open my ears to what you have said
Wonderin’ how I have all this
I feel you here in my thoughts and heart
You let me know you’re in every part
Of all I do, and just how much you care
Answerin’ all my prayers

Verse 2 Help me help you
I want to know you
I want to use the gifts from you to do good
Teach me to follow the path you laid
And I will do what you taught every day

Chorus So I take time to kneel by my bed
Speak all the words that are in my head
Open my ears to what you have said
Wonderin’ how I have all this
I feel you here in my thoughts and heart
You let me know you’re in every part
Of all I do, and just how much you care
Answerin’ all my prayers

Verse 3 Every time I feel you here…

Chorus Oh, I take time to kneel by my bed
Speak all the words that are in my head
Open my ears to what you have said
Wonderin’ how I have all this
I feel you here in my thoughts and heart
You let me know you’re in every part
Of all I do, and just how much you care
Answerin’ all my prayers

Home in Oklahoma

Verse 1 THE PHONE RANG LATE LAST SUNDAY NIGHT
MAMA SAID MY BEST FRIEND ALLIE’S DIED
COULDN’T SAY A WORD THROUGH MY TEARS
MEMORIES FLOODED IN FROM YOUNGER YEARS

MY HEART TOLD ME I HAD TO GO
HOME TO OKLAHOMA

Chorus WHEN I HIT THIS ONE-STOPLIGHT TOWN
DRIVE DOWN MILLER ROAD WHERE US KIDS HUNG AROUND
THE MEMORIES LIFT ME UP WHEN I’M DOWN
I’LL ALWAYS BE HOME IN OKLAHOMA

Verse 2 I PULLED UP TO HER HOUSE AND REMEMBERED
HOW OUR SUMMERS USED TO LAST FOREVER
WE’D PINKY SWEAR THAT IT WOULD NEVER END
WE’D LIVE IT ALL AS BEST OF FRIENDS

NO MATTER WHERE WE’D GO,
WE’D ALWAYS COME HOME

Chorus WHEN I HIT THIS ONE-STOPLIGHT TOWN
DRIVE DOWN MILLER ROAD WHERE US KIDS HUNG AROUND
THE MEMORIES LIFT ME UP WHEN I’M DOWN
I’LL ALWAYS BE HOME IN OKLAHOMA

Bridge I LAID HER FAVORITE RED ROSE ON THAT POLISHED WOOD
KNOWING SOMEDAY I’LL COME BACK FOR GOOD

Chorus THEN IT’S ONE MORE RIDE THROUGH THIS ONE-STOPLIGHT TOWN
PAST MILLER ROAD TO WHERE WE LAID HER DOWN
I’LL JOIN HER SOMEDAY IN THAT SACRED GROUND
WITH THE LOVE THAT MAKES MY WORLD GO ‘ROUND
I’LL ALWAYS BE HOME IN OKLAHOMA

I’LL ALWAYS BE HOME IN OKLAHOMA
