Bio

Anna Boustead’s unique style of folk-rock has been compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Chrissie Hynde and PJ Harvey. Heavily influenced by the climate and culture of her home in the Northern Territory, Anna’s strong vocals and bittersweet lyrics, together with the lilting string sounds of After the Rain, will take listeners on a journey from the desert to the sea.

Originally hailing from Ocean Grove, Victoria but now based in Darwin, indie singer-songwriter Anna Boustead has played solo for several years before forming a band with After the Rain in 2013.  She released a solo EP 'Cast Your Shadows' in 2008.

Anna Boustead was listed by AU Review as one of the '10 NT Artists to Watch in 2014' for her ‘lovely lyrics and tunes’,  a finalist in the 2014 Telstra Road to Discovery NT Heat and was a 2015 NT Song of the Year finalist for the song, ‘Consumer Junkie’, co-written with Tim Birch.

In July 2014 Anna Boustead and After the Rain released their debut self-titled EP featuring drummer Tim Birch, renowned violist Micha Jackson, guitarist Brad Ermel and bassist Amy Kimber. Launched at the Darwin Railway Club as part of the Darwin Fringe Festival, the tracks have received airplay on Territory FM, ABC radio and community radio stations across the country.  The EP is available at iTunes.

Anna Boustead and After the Rain play regularly at venues in and around Darwin with their new line-up featuring drummer Mark Smith and bassist Steve Kelk.

Since they formed in 2013, Anna Boustead and After the Rain has played three Darwin Festivals, the Adelaide River Muster, Original Recipe, Royal Darwin Show, Fred’s Pass Show, Saltwater Craft Fair, Territory Jazz and Blues Festival and Darwin Fringe Festival. Most recently, they performed as part of the MusicNT ‘InTune Showcase’, supported The Audreys in an acoustic set on their tour to Darwin and supported Jessica Mauboy at Territory Day 2015, playing to an audience of 20,000 people.
