Bio

Anna and the Ladykillers were formed in late 2011 when Anna felt oddly compelled to leave her Nashville apartment and walk two miles to the Gold Rush bar.

"It was bizarre...I had been having a lazy afternoon and all of a sudden I just knew where I needed to go. I walked in the door of The Gold Rush and ran right into Zack (Caro), who apparently had also left his house under the same circumstances. We hadn't been in touch for about a year, but I ended up showing him some of my new songs that night and we worked out some rough guitar parts. He was immediately on board, and of course I had wanted to play with Jordan [bass] for a while. Zack brought Grayson [drums] and Charles [keyboards] to the project shortly thereafter and we were on our way."

The Ladykillers come from a diverse musical background: Before diving into the Nashville music scene as a member of "Junk Train" and "Pappy Krakken", bass player Jordan Carpenter fronted the Fayetteville, Arkansas soul/rock group "Very Special Guests" and Anna met him when the two performed in a one-time Neil Diamond cover show. Drummer Grayson Whitlow has been a member of several Nashville groups, most notably "Juke Skywalker" and funk sensation "The Deep Fried Five." As well as creating his own jazz-tinged solo works with "The Charles Yarbrough Group" and "Snidely Incognito," Nashville native Charles Yarbrough has supported many acts from country/folk artist Janelle Faiman to rock and roll acts such as "The Look." Also from Nashville, guitar player Zack Caro was part of "The New Demographics" and the drum-and-bass/funk/psychadelic group "Bloody Sputum."

Born in Clarksville, Tennessee, Anna's relationship with music began early. Both sides of her family hold musical lineage, and holiday get-togethers always involved family jams. Both classically trained and folk musicians passed down not only their instruments but also an inherent love for all genres of sound. At age six, Anna's family moved to Bozeman, Montana, where she would play percussion and piano before graduating high school. Just before graduation, she picked up a guitar and immediately began writing songs. During a three-year stint at the University of Montana, Anna discovered that her love for writing, performing, singing, and playing guitar surpassed her dedication to schoolwork. During this time, she fronted a trio in Bozeman under her own name and recorded a full-length album as well as two demo's at Peak Recording and Sound. Later, as winner of the 2007 Trail Entertainer Awards "Vocalist of the Year" and first runner up for "Songwriter of the Year" Anna formed the four-piece group "Anna McGary and the Thirsty Three", which played all over the state of Montana, culminating in their opening spot for Third Eye Blind at 2008's Rockin' the Rivers Festival in Three Forks, Montana. In the Spring of 2009, Anna made the cross-country pilgrimage to Nashville to pursue a more vibrant writing and performing community. Since arriving in Nashville, Anna has been inspired by the likes of The Wooten Brothers, Jeff Beck, Derek Trucks, The Mars Volta, Vince Gill, Jack Pearson, and Adrian Belew, to name a few. Some earlier influences include The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Incubus, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Norah Jones. She was also in several choirs between grade school and college, and explores classical guitar as a hobby.

Currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, Anna and the Ladykillers recorded a four-track demo in March 2012 at Red Dirt Music Company, looking to secure future performance opportunities and expand as a regional act. Anna's well-structured rock/pop songs provide the perfect platform for her guitar work and for the Ladykillers to shine. Hints of blues, classic rock, funk, and soul blend together to create an appealing live show that engages from start to finish.
