Anna Cinzia Villani is one of the most representative female voices in Salento, Southern Italian region, today.
Singer, musician and mindful researcher she is able to link the breath of her ancient land with the contemporary musical idioms, revealing the possibility of a balanced synthesis between tradition and modernity.
As a singer who has been performing for fifteen years, she has never stopped researching and learning from styles and techniques from master singers and dancers, hidden in the most inaccessible places and sometimes unapproachable themselves. Anna Cinzia discovered and preserved ancient secrets which without her warm smile and her friendly and respectful attitude would have been lost and forever forgotten.
Anna Cinzia starts her career in the early 90 singing and performing with several folk bands from Salento becoming known from the early starts thanks to the unique timbre of her voice, her ancient voice. Besides her professional activities she starts searching for her roots and she finds them by talking to the woman next door. Anna Cinzia starts travelling thrughout the tinyes and lost villages of the Salento region and meets the elderlies who still sing like they use to do in their childhood, with their families, neighbors and friends while working in the fields, during their families celebrations or their villages fairs.
Canti a stisa, Canti di lavoro, Arie dei tranieri o delle tabaccare, Stornelli, Serenate: poliphonic singing or a cappella. In one word, music without music.
