Earlier, opening proceedings were Anna Lena and the Orchids, as dainty a proposition as the name might suggest.
Norwegian singer-songwriter Anna Lena and her genteel band of Orchids bring a batch of introspective ditties with vocals which are sweet yet tinged with a brand of melancholy.
A strong point about the Kazimier is that it's easy for the audience to seem rapt, with many people seated like obedient children in a semi-circle about the stage as the personable Anna Lena invites audience members to pick up their free EP from the porch while thanking everybody for coming along. Anna Lena and the Orchids is an ambient/experimental band drawing influences from Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Bjork and other similar acts. Whilst similarities can be observed between The Orchids and the above acts, the band carves out a niche through a mixture of Scandinavian folk, alternative rock and ambient musical styles, creating a recognizable sound.
They formed in September 2009 and since then they have acquired a large fan base and also a lot of interest from the music industry. They have played numerous shows in London, Manchester and Liverpool. They have also played in Oslo at the BY:Larm festival in February 2010, Slottsfjell Festival in July 2011 and Liverpool Sound City in May 2010 with big success.The band self-released their EP named * child* in November 2010. Tracks from their EP has been played on Norwegian Radio P3 and also on BBC 6 Radio.
They are now located in London.
