Biography

Anna Sahlene is a true natural in the entertainment business. She is a seasoned vocalist and performer that has honed her skills since her childhood and the results are evident. Her soulful emotive style is a breath of fresh air in a musical climate full of female artists that are manufactured and packaged.

She started her career at the tender age of eleven working with renowned film director Lasse Hallstrom (Cider House Rules, Shipping News) starring as “Anna” in the staple hit series, “The Children of Bullerbyn” in Sweden. Hailing from a family of musicians, Anna soon after developed her vocal and musical skills, leading her to a career as a full time singer.

Anna moved to Stockholm from her hometown of Soderhamn at eighteen finding work as a session singer and later joining R&B band Rhythm Avenue, which recorded one album. She soon felt a need to grow creatively and was offered a record deal as a solo artist with Roadrunner Arcade Music. This opportunity was a turning curve in her career allowing Anna to collaborate with young Swedish producer Patrik Berger (Hilary Duff, Jennifer Brown) and, top New York writer/producer Kara Dioguardi (Celine Dion, Enrique Iglesias, Kylie Minogue). The album entitled, “The Little Voice”, would produce many great pop/rock gems, but unfortunately it was never released due to the company’s eventual bankruptcy. Anna did however get to perform with world class artists as part of the promotional campaign for the unreleased album, opening for legendary Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and Bon Jovi.

Not one to let the business get her down, Anna moved on. In 2002, she was offered to sing in the Estonian domestic finals of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song, “Runaway”. Her electric performance was so dynamic, that she ended up winning the competition and eventually competing in the European finals and placing third. “Runaway” became a hit in many European countries, but especially in her home country of Sweden where the song became one of the biggest hits of 2002.

Later that year, Lionheart International offered Anna a record deal with idea of combining some of her unreleased material with news songs for a spring release in 2003. The album, “It’s Been A While”, once again produced one of the top hits of 2003 with, “We’re Unbreakable”. The song has proven to be more than just a Swedish hit, also charting in the top ten in Norway, The Baltics and most recently Japan, where it has become a huge hit. Not only has the song taken off, but the album has been regarded as one of the top releases of the decade in the pop/rock genre by many respected music critics in Japan. “It’s Been A While” has now also been released in other European territories such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Portugal.

Recently Anna has completed her second album, “Photograph” with producer Darryl Swann (Macy Gray) in Los Angeles. The material takes her in a more soulful direction, teaming up with many top Swedish and US writers including Charlie Midnight (Hilary Duff), Joe Solo (Macy Gray), Lindy Robbins (Anastacia) and Josh Deutsch (Lenny Kravitz). Anna has co-written 11 of the 12 songs on the CD, which also features a great version of Eurythmics’ 80’s classic, “Missionary Man”.

Lyrics

Creeps

Written By: Anna Sahlene/Pontus Soderqvist/Nik Nice

Girls and boys, kings and queens
Let me see you move your feet
Come on get your ass on the dance floor

The crowd is young, the feeling’s right
We’re going keep you up all night
Let me see you move to the groovin’

When the DJ spins the sound
I get chills down my spine, the music’s making me high

I got the creeps all over my body
Like I wanna dance, dance, dance
I got the Creeps all over my body
Like I wanna dance, dance, dance
Party ‘til the morning comes around

Getting down with the band
Let me see you clap your hands
It’s not a question, it’s a demand

You asked me to all night long
So I’m gonna sing your favourite song
I’m cravin’ y’all to sing along

When the DJ spins the sound
I get chills down my spine the music’s making me high

I got the creeps all over my body
Like I wanna dance, dance, dance (party ‘til the morning light)
I got the Creeps all over my body
Like I wanna dance, dance, dance
Party ‘til the morning comes around

We’re gonna have a good time, leave all of your troubles behind
There’s no use in worrying, so let me hear you
Let me hear you scream!

Creeps….
Party ‘til the morning light

I got the creeps all over my body
Like I wanna dance, dance, dance
I got the creeps all over my body
And I wanna dance, dance, dance
I got the creeps all over my body
Like I wanna dance, dance, dance (party ‘til the morning light)
And party ‘til the morning comes around

Damn Good Try

Written By: Anna Sahlene/Joe Solo/Lindy Robbins

I can’t believe December’s come and gone
Another year’s flown by
Not even close to where I’d thought be but you can’t stop time

Sometimes I don’t know why I’m hanging on
To all these foolish dreams
But I guess some stubborn part of me won’t let them die

Maybe I’ll never get where I’m going
Maybe I’ll crash down to the ground
Maybe I’m never gonna know what it feels to fly
But I’m gonna give it a damn good try

I step outside the air is cold and pure
The new snow’s falling down
I take a breathe and feel so blessed to be right here and now

Maybe I’ll never get where I’m going
Maybe I’ll crash down to the ground
Maybe I’m never gonna know what it feels to fly
But I’m gonna give it a damn good try

It would be so easy to give up
It would be so easy to just let go
But something inside is trying to tell me what I already know

Maybe I’ll never get where I’m going
Maybe I’ll crash down to the ground
Maybe I’m never gonna know what it feels to fly
But I’m gonna give it a damn good try

Mama Put You Gun Down

Written By: Anna Sahlene, Jimmy Wahlsteen, Niclas Arn

This is how I’m ending up
She’s got her finger on the trigger
She’s got no sense of motherhood
It’s so not what it’s supposed to be between her and me
A prisoner of a wrecked mind
I lost control of space and time
Now every second feels like an hour
My life is in her power

Mama put your gun down, don’t shoot me in the head
I didn’t do ya nothing wrong, so why you wanna see me dead?
Now mama put your gun down, don’t shoot me in the face
I didn’t do ya nothing wrong, so let me finish my race
Mama put your gun down (mama put your gun down)

Cold, cold eyes and cold cold heart
She always hated me right from the start
Go easy mom, just take it slow
She told me I’m the lowest of the low

I can’t stand more of this freak show
I better just take off and go
But there is no way to escape
I’m stuck in her mistake, no!

Mama put your gun down; don’t shoot me in the head
I didn’t do ya nothing wrong, so why you wanna see me dead?
Now mama put your gun down, don’t shoot me in the face
I didn’t do ya nothing wrong, so let me finish my race
Mama put your gun down (mama put your gun down)

Some say that history repeats itself
Well just ask me because I know damn well
I’ve had the same nightmare for years and years now
I guess it manifests my greatest fears now
So what’s the deal mom?
Could this be real mom?
Or am I one pathetic mislead daughter, blaming all the wrongs in my life on you
When I’m the one responsible

I wanna go the Vegas and let the sun shine on me
But I guess that it’s return now, ‘cause you’re pointing it right at me

Mama put your gun down; don’t shoot me in the head
I didn’t do ya nothing wrong, so why you wanna see me dead?
Now mama put your gun down, don’t shoot me in the face
I didn’t do ya nothing wrong, so let me finish my race
Mama put your gun down (mama put your gun down)
