Lyrics

Your hat

Written By: Clare Connolly

1.
I watched him check his watch for the hundredth time that day,
His intentions to me were as clear as the rain,
It was nothing more than a look as we passed in the hall,
A look like the breeze at the start of your fall.

I watched him that morning like I’d watched him that night,
Sleeping and dreaming with her in his mind,
Little prying questions, does he know that I know?
Questions of ice in a world full of snow.

Chorus:
Please love don’t leave me alone in this world,
My life is your life, I give it to you,
They don’t understand dear, how love, it can be,
How poisoned is this tear, if you don’t want me.

2.
He left me that morning with a kiss on my cheek,
I gave him his hat, I could barely speak,
Was he thinking of her as he closed the door,
A door that I held to keep from the floor.

I sat on the bed until five past nine,
The clock was my fear and my heart drummed in time,
I painted my lips and I hid in my coat,
I followed behind him to see where he’d go.

Chorus:
Please love don’t leave me alone in this world,
My life is your life, I give it to you,
They don’t understand dear, how love, it can be,
How poisoned is this tear, if you don’t want me.

3.
I came to see him, I waited outside,
When I saw him leaving, I turned and I smiled,
To the man with the papers and when I looked around,
His hat was the only thing left in the crowd.

I could barely keep up with his purposeful strides,
With my scarf wrapped around me, betrayal on my mind,
Was it her that he called as I stayed on the line?
With a voice so perfectly different to mine.

Chorus:
Please love don’t leave me alone in this world,
My life is your life, I give it to you,
They don’t understand dear, how love, it can be,
How poisoned is this tear, if you don’t want me.

Call you home

Written By: Clare Connolly

1.
Losing you has been so good,
I made my home from sand and wood,
Now looking back, I can see,
That dreams are made when you are free.

Chorus:
Let me tell you that I love you,
That you’ve planted something I can’t find,
It’s always clearer when you’re higher,
So I’m going to call you home.

2.
Well there’s more than one way to skim a cat,
With heaven’s song and nature’s bath,
Filling the space in your own damn house,
And making holes to invite the mouse.

Chorus:
Let me tell you that I love you,
That you’ve planted something I can’t find,
It’s always clearer when you’re higher,
So I’m going to call you home.

3.
Well I’ve learned to love without needing to lead,
To take the blame without wishing to leave,
Not knowing the future’s no reason to grieve,
Perhaps not knowing’s what wills us to breathe.

Chorus:
Let me tell you that I love you,
That you’ve planted something I can’t find,
It’s always clearer when you’re higher,
So I’m going to call you home.

4.
Open windows and close your cages,
Let them rot with the myth of ages,
Relax with the wisdom of sages,
Start your book with the blank pages.

Chorus:
Let me tell you that I love you,
That you’ve planted something I can’t find,
It’s always clearer when you’re higher,
So I’m going to call you home.

5.
Well I’ve learned to love without needing to lead,
To take the blame without wishing to leave,
Losing’s not always a reason to grieve,
Sometimes losing’s our greatest release.

Chorus:
Let me tell you that I love you,
That you’ve planted something I can’t find,
It’s always clearer when you’re higher,
So I’m going to call you home.
