"London Welsh Male Voice Choir in Concert"

The London Welsh Male Voice Choir took to the stage in the Brandon Conference Centre, Tralee on Thursday night 1st June to tumultuous applause. It was their first visit to the Kingdom and, from the welcome they received from everyone, it is likely that they will be back again very shortly!

The Choir has performed in such prestigious venues as the Royal Festival Hall, Glyndebourne Opera House, Westminster Abbey, Wembley Stadium, Cardiff Arms Park and the Royal Albert Hall. They have undertaken a number of overseas tours, including Florida, Denmark, Germany, Canada, Barbados and Boston, culminating in two performances here in Ireland - Limerick and Tralee.

It was a wonderful evening's entertainment to hear the 80 strong male voices from the Land of Song performing their varied and enjoyable repertoire of material from opera to modern pop.

Guest performers on the night included Tralee's Paula Murrihy and Listowel's Anna Connolly. Paula is currently studying for a B. Mus. performance degree at the DIT Conservatory of Music, Dublin, where she studies voice with Anne-Marie O'Sullivan and repetiteur, Mairead Hurley. She is a frequent oratorio soloist and has recorded for both FM3 Classical Radio and Lyric FM. Paula's most notable achievement to date has been winning the Dame Joan Sutherland award for Most Promising Young Singer at the 1999 Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition.

Anna Connolly will be starting her final year as a B.Mus. student in UCD this September and she also studies piano with Anthony Byrne in the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She has received commendations for her performance in the Feis Ceoil 2000 and recently won a scholarship to the RIAM for the coming academic year.
