"One Star on the Rise"

On her latest CD One Star Night Anne Carol sings with the sweet voice of an angelwho’s as comfortable with the depths and the darkness as with the realms of light. Her lyrics are mystical, invoking the elements and the four directions, finding power and
transformation in the earth. You could call this collection a love song to the earth—even when she’s singing suggestive lyrics in a breathy voice you’re never quite sure if she’s singing to a lover or having an ecstatic elemental encounter.
Anne Carol weaves the songs on One Star Night from seasons passing into millennia and
molecules spanning into distant stars, finding those connections in even the most mundane moments. The listener is invited to enter a dreamtime awareness of shapeshifting time and space, alive and humming with awareness at every level.
Musically the CD has an ear-pleasing variety, with some pieces having upbeat, almost danceable rhythms and others slow and haunting. Violins lend a sweetness that is counterbalanced with grinding electric guitar and a few underworld minor chords. At
times Carol intertwines melodious spoken word with flawlessly sung vocals, creating enticing layers of sound. One of my favorite new singer/songwriters. Anne Carol’s one star is definitely on the rise.
