Biography

I have been a singer my entire life, and I continued with voice training through college. I wrote my first song when I was 8 and didn't write another until I was 30. After college, i went to law school. During my second year of law school I became a single mom, but was still able to complete law school in the minimum 3 years. Outside of singing to my daughter and her baby friends, any thoughts I had of performing publicly were swept under the carpet so that I could focus on being a good mom. Instead of studying for the bar exam, I got a job, but then I faced what many Americans are facing these days: a lay off. The day I was laid off in December 2008, was one of those "meant to be" moments. After the initial freak out, I woke up the next day and realized that I would once again have time to sing. I dusted off my guitar, and started writing songs in March 2009. Songwriting proved to be very cathartic. I started performing at Open Mics in July 2009. The next thing I knew I was booking gigs in Chicago and heading down to Nashville to perform at Writer's Nights and even co-writing songs with other musicians. The past year has been quite a whirlwind, to say the least, but wow, it has really been the best year of my life so far.

To Be A Kid Again

Written By: Ann E. Carrera

She starts off swinging slowly
That sparkling smile across her face
She knows just where she’s headed... See More
she’s flying into space

Oh watching her, brings me back

She’s climbed mountains
She’s wrestled lions
She’s fought for pirate treasures
Til the end
I’d walk miles in her shoes
To be a kid again

This life it went by quickly
And I wouldn’t trade the things I’ve found
I made a life, I made a family
And for that I’m mighty proud

Oh, but sometimes I dream of going back

She’s climbed mountains
She’s wrestled lions
She’s fought for pirate treasures
Til the end
I’d walk miles in her shoes
To be a kid again

Long hair blowing in the wind
A pilot in a speeding ship
She finds my eyes
And says now its your turn to fly

She’s climbed mountains
She’s wrestled lions
She’s fought for pirate treasures
Til the end
I’d walk miles in her shoes
To be a kid again

Chasing a Shadow

Written By: Ann E. Carrera

Lying here alone Listening to the rain
tap tap tapping on my window
Like the voice That keeps on asking... See More
why why why you had to go
And even with my eyes closed tight
I can’t fall asleep

What keeps me up at night
Is the memory of your eyes
I’m pulling at the sky
Holdin onto sand
Walking on a cloud
Chasing a shadow

I’ve been waiting for the message
That you promised you would send
Doesn't Seem so long since I felt you near
The time for goodbye can't be at the end
If I give into my dreams
I’m afraid I will forget

What keeps me up at night
Is the memory of your eyes
I’m pulling at the sky
Holdin onto sand
Walking on a cloud
Chasing a shadow

I’m wonderin if you ever knew
You were my safe retreat
When darkness fell from blue
I keep holdin on
Yeah I know its wrong
I think you’re here
But you’ve been gone too long
I had so much to say
But now you’re far away
I’m unsure of almost every day
And I know We can’t rewind
I know We can’t catch up
I’ll fall asleep
Believe that’s what you’d want

What keeps me up at night
Is the memory of your eyes
I’m pulling at the sky
Holdin onto sand
Walking on a cloud
Chasing a shadow

Pick Me Up

Written By: Ann E. Carrera/David A. Janossy

Worked my tail off all day long
I just punched my card
I need a little pick me up... See More
So I'm headed to the bar

You're the first to catch my eye
As I walk in
Boy you're gonna be surprised
When you ask me what I'm drinkin

If they're servin whiskey
Take a shot for me
You can hold the coffee
That's not what I need
I'm not lookin for a drug
I just want you to
Pick me up

My favorite song is playing
Take my hand and lead
Let's just keep it simple
Dancin's what I need

If they're servin whiskey
Take a shot for me
You can hold the coffee
That's not what I need
I'm not lookin for a drug
I just want you to
Pick me up
