"Jazz 89.3 KUVO's 30-Under-30 Showcase"

An interview done by the premier jazz radio station, Jazz 89.3 KUVO based in Denver, CO. - Jazz 89.3 KUVO

"Annie Booth: Wanderlust"

Wanderlust, Booth’s new jazz album on Dazzle Recordings, features quartet and trio compositions that cover a broad range of experiences. There is both depth and lightness. The whole album is enjoyable, my favorite tracks are Constellation (4) and Three Sisters’ Waltz (7).

There is a story hidden in the wordless tones of Booth’s compositions, with moments of triumph, loss, and sweet repose. Booth has compiled a wide array of styles under the umbrella of Jazz for this album, fast swing, groovy mid tempos, austere chorales, and even a beautiful gospel-infused waltz. Her choices of fell, mode, and tempo effects are bold and innovative.

The music on the album is performed by herself and three fellow rising stars in the constellation of American musicians, Matt Smiley, Alejandro Castaño, and Josh Quinlan (bass, drums, and saxophones). Booth’s own performances matches the calibre of her writing. She sounds the piano lyrically, with clarity and intent.

Her bandmates match her effortless technique and use big ears to communicate amongst themselves. Smiley and Castaño both shine in their moments of exposure and within the group textures, tight and on time. Quinlan’s saxophone is vocal and inflective…. - Timothy Breckon, The Examiner
