Bio

Annie Kennedy has been driven to succeed as a country artist since the day she was 10 years old and pulled out the phone book to find herself a manager. A dozen years and countless musical experiences later, Annie is in Nashville promoting her debut album. This first release showcases Annie's ability to infuse a traditional country sound into modern songs, through both her beautifully sung melodies and lyrics that tell stories of love and life.

After starring in her school’s production of the musical “Annie,” this Annie became fascinated by musical theater and the ability to tell a story through song, something that has remained constant in her life to this day. Once in high school, Kennedy continued her vocal training through classical lessons, chamber ensembles, and even an all-girl A Capella group that performed regularly throughout the Chicago suburbs.

Despite her classical background, Annie still felt drawn to country music, and decided to pursue that passion at Millikin University. As a commercial music major, Annie explored every aspect of the business, from singing and writing to engineering and producing. “I loved exploring all the different aspects of the industry, and I really feel like those opportunities helped me focus on my current path,” says Kennedy.

Annie’s education at Millikin also provided her with what has been the most profound moment of her musical journey to date. As a member of the Millikin University choir, Kennedy traveled to China on a 10 day tour just prior to the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing. After performing a concert with a local middle school group, the choir bonded with the students through an impromptu sing-a-long. Amazed by how quickly the cultural barriers were broken down by such a simple act, Kennedy has since held onto the belief that music is perhaps the most powerful relationship-builder out there, and looks forward to testing that theory throughout her career.

Annie moved to Music City a few weeks after graduation, and hasn’t slowed down since. She quickly began sharing both the stage and the page with many of the region’s best up and coming writers, singing and writing as often as she can. Kennedy released her debut album “Highway Songs” in early 2011, and has been touring in support of the album throughout the Midwest and Southeast.
