Bio

Atlanta-born Ann Marie McPhail is one of the regions seasoned performers and is quickly establishing herself as a versatile lyric soprano in the United States. She completed her undergraduate degree at Clark Atlanta University and received a Master's in Voice Performance from Georgia State University. Ms. McPhail made her career debut at the Houston Ebony Opera where she played the role of the Countess in Mozart's, The Marriage of Figaro . Her accolades include winner of the Rose-Palmai Tenser Vocal Competition and ÒDiva Goddess' at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies.

Ms. McPhail's most recent engagements include a Barbados tour with St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a feature performance with the Atlanta Chamber Players, and a solo performance with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for St. Paul's Church Christmas Concert. Ms. McPhail has also appeared as a guest clinician and recitalist for the 2009 Mississippi Music Teachers Association State Convention and for Jackson State University.

Ms. McPhail's many concert engagements include Fan Mu Lan in the premiere of Fred Ho's Warrior Princess at Aaron Davis Hall in New York. She has also performed alongside Jessye Norman with Opera Ebony in their annual AIDS Benefit Gala as well as sang for the unveiling of the official Thurgood Marshall postal stamp at York College.

With strong commitments to not only music, but her native community and arts education, Ms. McPhail has presented countless master classes, lecture series, and recitals for religious organizations, conventions, and educational institutions. Her extensive experiences at Tanglewood Music Center and abroad studying Italian and German language and culture coupled with her tutelage under renowned artists, Rita Loving and David Lee Brewer have afforded her a unique perspective that she readily shares with students and colleagues.

Currently, Ms. McPhail is a lecturer and voice faculty member at Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia. She has also served as an artist affiliate at Agnes Scott College, as a vocal instructor for the Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem, and as a member of Atlanta Opera and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
