Bio

Steve Jolin, aka Anodajay, was born on the 7th July, 1977. Despite having been raised in Abitibi-Tmiscamingue, it was on the other side of the border, on Ontario soil, that a 12 year old Jolin stood on stage for the first time. From that unforgettable day on, he was hooked. A few years later, armed with a mic and three demo tracks, Steve Jolin became Anodajay (anode was in reference to the copper anode, a primordial resource in the Rouyn Noranda region, and Anodajay a play on the expression another J). He was to become the 1st and most influential rap artist in Abitibi.
With the release of Premier VII, a 20 track debut record, he founded 7ime Ciel records, which is a label committed to protecting local Hip-Hop. He ended up discovering and producing some of Quebecs heavy hitters; these include influential artists such as Samian, Koriass and Dramatik.
In the June of 2006, Anodajay released Septentrion which is his critically acclaimed second album. He fine tuned his set for a show at the Francofolies festival. The artist, now nicknamed rappeur des bois or rapper of the woods, performed his adaptation of the great Quebec classic La bitt--tibi, which he renamed Le beat Ti-bi. The audacious performance cleverly mixed two musical genres and bridged the generational gap between audience members and the two styles of music at hand. The performance was taken to another level with the participation of unique and incomparable guest artist, Raoul Duguay. Needless to say, the crowd went crazy. The dynamic track took over the airwaves as its video clip appeared on television and computer screens across the province, the success was immense. Anodajay who had been working as an artist, entrepreneur and physical education teacher, was now managing his own label from home. He was voted artistic personality of the year in Abitibi and, proudly accepting that title, went on to win the award for best video clip of the year at the SOBA Gala (for Le beat Ti-bi). He also earned the award for Collaboration of the year and Popular artist of the year at the MU Gala and a nomination at the MuchMusic Video Awards in the category for Best Francophone videoclip.
It was on April 7 2007 that Anodajay organized the HHD Event (Hip Hop Dpendant), in Montreal. For this event he united some of Quebec hip-hops rising stars on the stage of Club Soda. The sold out show was a four hour event that was acclaimed by the audience, the press and the industry. The event was presented again at the Imprial in Quebec and at Festival des mongolfires de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, but this time it was in front of a crowd of close to 12 000 people. It is considered to be one of the most ambitious hip-hop shows ever produced in Quebec and was presented once more in 2008 for the 20 year anniversary of the Francofolies de Montreal. When Anodajay graced the Metropolis stage it was as a producer, business man and a seasoned rapper. In the fall Anodajay was nominated at the Gala de lADISQ in the categories of best music video of the year for Le beat Ti-bi and hip-hop album of the year for Septentrion. His life story is even brought to the big screen in the documentary Attentat 117 Nord which was screened at the Abitibi-Tmiscamingue International Film Festival.
In 2010 we were fortunate to celebrate the seventh year anniversary of 7ime Ciel label, on the stages of the Francofolies, and the Festival de Musique mergeante de lAbitibi-Tmiscamingue. We also celebrate the ever growing success of 7ime Ciel artists, notably the infamous rapper of Algonquin origin Samian, who is a true warrior with words. On September 7th, the man described as raps big brother, due to his involvement with youngsters and their community, put forth the seventh release on 7ime Ciel ET7ERA. With a copper packaging and lyrics deeply rooted in the earth, the record is praised by critics and has amassed a large following. With a new record in hand and a single Jamais su revamping Diane Tells Longtemps, souvent, normment he hit the top of the radio charts. Now with a song in the top 50 BDS he plowed through Quebec, then Samians homecoming show at Club Soda, with guest Diane Tell. He then collaborated with her for the show Studio 12 broadcast on Radio-Canada. To top it all he played the Francofolies at Metropolis supporting French veteran rapper Akhenaton, a truly memorable evening.
In the fall of 2011, Et7era is nominated for a Flix award for best hip hop album of the year at lAutre Gala de lADISQ, where he was invited to perform.
