"Music Lineup Set For Pelotonia Weekend"

Juli Capani - Pelotonia Press Release

Music Lineup Set For Pelotonia Weekend

Imagine a three-day bike event filled with an array of musical artists, from start to finish, and at all the stops in between.

Oh wait, you don’t have to imagine such a ride … because Pelotonia 11 will be exactly this type of bike ride and music festival – and will feature an incredible assortment of 16 established recording stars and up-and-coming young musicians.

Chuck Wicks will be the headliner on Friday night ... so hang out and enjoy the music

There will be music during all three days of Pelotonia: at the opening ceremony on Friday evening, at the end of the 23-mile ride in Canal Winchester, at the end of the 43-mile ride in Amanda, in Athens for the 102- and 180-mile riders on Saturday evening, and at Slate Run Park on Sunday afternoon for the 180-mile riders.

That’s a lot of music!

Many of the musicians are from Nashville.

“Sometimes we forget Nashville is just down the road and it is considered ‘the music capital of the world,’” said Juli Capani, Pelotonia’s Director of Procurement. “We wanted to take advantage of this and we wanted more rising, hip and cool acts. Friday night has had great entertainment the past two years – and we wanted to extend this through the entire weekend. Our objective is to grow and improve everything we do.”

Juli listened to more than 100 bands – and selected a mix of known artists, as well as several up-and-coming future stars. The list of performers does have a Nashville sound to it, but there will be a wide variety of music, she promised.

Headlining on Friday night will be Chuck Wicks, a popular country performer, who was also a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. He has had some hits on the radio including his most recent single Old School. Click here to listen to some of Chuck’s other music.

James Otto will be the headline performer on Saturday evening in Athens. James is a Warner Brothers recording star and another popular country performer. His most recent single Groovy Little Summer Song will be great to hear after a long ride. Click here for more on James.

“These acts are household names in Nashville, as well as the country music scene and we are excited that our riders and guests will get to enjoy their music,” Juli said.

Luc and the Lovingtons, from Seattle, have a bit of a different sound and will also perform in Athens. Click here for more info.

Here’s the list of performers, as well as when and where they will play…

"Band to bring diverse sounds"

Band to bring diverse sounds
Merri Shaffer, Staff Writer
Published: Wed Apr 16, 2008
The eclectic tunes of Knoxville-based band Genuine Nothing will hit the stage of Macleod’s Irish Pub and Restaurant on Wednesday.
With each member linked by a passion for music, the four-member band carries out a variety of genres. Funk, soul, country, folk and rock ‘n’ roll are all elements found in this band’s sound, said guitarist and vocalist Anthony Bernhauser.
“(Our sound) spans over different genres,” he said. “I think partly (from) all our different backgrounds.”
Bernhauser said lead vocalist Bryant Adler brings more of an “Americana-country vibe,” while drummer Andrew Myers brings a good amount of funk.
“The band has different styles that compliment each other,” he added.
Formerly known as Anthony Bryant and the Unacceptables, the band has played at various Knoxville venues like the Preservation Pub, The Prince Deli and Sports Bar and Mama Jan’s.
Bernhauser and Adler began forming the band in summer 2006. Bernhauser is now a senior in music education while Adler is a UT graduate. The two began their musical pursuit on the east coast while working at a music camp, playing in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. They expanded the group to include Myers and bassist Andrew Piarrot, both UT students.
Myers, senior in mechanical engineering, is a former member of the band The Funk Explosion.
“The energy you get from the crowd … and the atmosphere is kind of incredible in a lot of ways,” he said. Being a part of Genuine Nothing served as a great way to get back into the live music scene, he added. “It … deals with my passion for music, too. I have always looked for an outlet, and (being with the band) is just a great way to do that.”
With every member at some time involved with either the UT Pride of the Southland Marching Band or the UT School of Music, Bernhauser described the group as “very rhythmically based.”
Combing their percussive roots with original songwriting, he also said the band tends to play fun tunes as well as serious ones.
From songs about social awkwardness and kegs to tunes about regrets, the band continues to expand their musical horizons while reaching out to people.
“Writing music for me is … my passion,” said Bernhauser, the main songwriter. “I’ll go to sleep, and I’ll have a notepad next to me.”
Using “a bunch of ramblings” that sometimes don’t initially make sense, Bernhauser said he often comes back a few months later and sees new things in his words.
He said he draws a lot of inspiration from interactions with the world around him.
One of the group’s songs, “Take it Back,” is this year’s finalist for the state of Tennessee for the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
“The song is about not having regrets. Life is it,” Bernhauser said. “The chorus is ‘take it back, take it back, hold on. Can I just rewind the night before.’ It’s the realization … that you have lost something for good, and it’s how you deal with that loss.”
To listen to “Take it Back” and more of Genuine Nothing, check out the band’s official Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/genuinenothing. Genuine Nothing will perform at Macleod’s Irish Pub and Restaurant Wednesday at 11 p.m. - The Daily Beacon (Knoxville, TN) Merri Shaffer, Staff Writer
